When we had our F Class group going a few years back, I did exactly the same thing. Soaked a towel, kept it in a cooler with ice packs and wrapped it around the barrel between matches. BarlowI was reading the article about Jeff Cochern from TX. In it he says he cools his barrwl after a string by soaking a towel with water and putting the towel on the barrel.
Any else ever do this? seems like a good idea. his results speak for themself.
We do that on a regular basis. I live in Phoenix Arizona, When we practice in the summer the temp can be 85 degrees at 7:00 and go to 110 by noon. That towel knocks the temp down pretty quick but you need to be careful and re-stabilize the temperature. The towel does not cool the barrel uniformly. I have taken a hand held laser temperature gun/guage and got different reading on different parts of the barrel, sometimes as much as 40 degrees.I was reading the article about Jeff Cochern from TX.
