UPS Stores

Had a fellow member, i just bought a scope from , try to ship me the scope at a ups store. The worker had a fit saying we can not ship any kind of gun part. What B.S.
The seller they just went to the post office.
I got to thinking alittle more on it, whlie drinking my coffee , and got a wee on the stirred up side and called the corp office.
After 15min on hold, a young clueless, kid answer the phone.
When asked why was shipping a scope a problem i was told why dose not matter it is COMPANY POLICY. I then asked about shipping a telescope he said Oh that is fine. I then asked what the difference was. He then got snarky telling me he should not and dose not, have to explain the differance to me.
Then I got mad, after a grade double AA a** chewing, i was a road crew foreman, two phone calls ,he is probably draging a hind leg. I informed them I will NEVER use there service to ship ANYTHING AGAIN.
What a sorry state our country is now in.

Rant over

I exclusively use the UPS store near my home and they have no problem shipping any optics or rifle parts and have done so for the past few years.....funny part is that I am in CA where nobody seems to like firearms ;)

I get stuff all the time via UPS from Midway. Also got a scope recently from another vendor. Never had a problem shipping or receiving from them due to a "gun part" in fact I just got a shipping notice from Midway today that's coming UPS and it has bullets, scope caps and even some live ammo

'UPS' is a different entity from "The UPS Store". The former has employees that are trained on hazmat handling, etc. The latter has retail office clerks. Hence their understandable, but regrettable, corporate policy about anything involving guns, ammo, powder, primers. In the OP's case, a telescopic sight is kinda stretching the 'gun parts' language way beyond what it was probably intended to cover - but again, retail office clerks. They have no idea what part of a 'gun' is regulated and what are not.

I find the best approach when shipping items is to only provide the necessary information. I answer the specific questions I am asked and that's it.

Seems to be the only way to keep everyone happy.

And I am in no way suggesting you should attempt to break any laws or regulations. If you're not certain what you can do, find an FFL to guide you.

YMMV.

Already done that before i posted my rant. Contacted corporate both ups and ups stores
What i poorly was trying to get at was , if all of us gun owners stop using the UPS STOREs to ship anything maybe when they have the quarterly meeting and see a dip in there profit, they may ask why. The wallet talks!

I've shipped quite a bit through UPS stores. But, through creative descriptions, lie LA50Shooter, I have shipped:
shotgun barrels = pipe
barreled actions= sealed pipe
scopes=optical devices
ammo=lead and brass
bullets= lead and copper pieces
cases =brass containers
and probably other items I've forgotten about

True story. Went to the local UPS Store with a case of .22lr ammo. Had all my forms, ORMD stickers and everything UPS said I needed to ship. The Clerk ask me what was in the box and I stated a case of .22lr ammo. She said just a minute and went to the back. 5 minutes latter 2 local Township Police Officers rolled up in front of the store and escorted me and my ammo out. That was some crazy stuff. Went out to my LGS and ask if they could take care of it and they just handed it off to the UPS Driver when he stopped. Brian.

You can also print a label out at home from UPS and drop it off at a local business to ship out with theirs.

UPS stores are franchises.

Each one probably has different rules. Our local one won’t ship for the same reasons.

However UPS will ship gun parts and optics.
different stores different rules,,hence:gun barrel=auto parts

Let me know how it goes when you go to collect on the insurance on a lost shipment, and they balk at paying $2000 for 'optical device'.

Hell, most places I've shipped thru, when you start wanting to insure for that kind of value they want to know *exactly* WTF is in there, and don't accept anything that sounds like complete BS...
