All I can say is do not buy Hornaday ammo in hopes of getting some brass. Hornaday factory ammo has a crimp in the primer pocket..
That'd be great.. But my RCBS swager didn't come with a 17 cal rod. I can't find one either..How bout removing that crimp like military brass?
De-prime one and try to seat a new primer.. You'll see what is being discussed..This is a piece of factory new ammo out of box of Hornady Superformance 17 Hornet 20gr Vmax. Help me learn something, how/where is there a crimp on the primer or around the primer pocket? Not looking to argue about it but what am I not seeing?View attachment 1043277

Maybe Hornaday has addressed this issue. All my brass from my Hornaday factory ammo has been tossed in the trash. The brass that they sell has no problems.. It's the loaded factory ammo that I had a problem with. I haven't bought any for quite a while so maybe the issue is moot. I am not going to buy ammo just to see. That's the thing, I have and there was no issue so I'm still a little confused on what the problem is. What am I missing?

Midway has 17 Hornet Superperformance for less than $16 a box right now on sale. Hopefully it can be reloaded, but that is a pretty good deal. $0.10 more than their empty cases....per round.

Huh? Primer pockets are the same size as 223.
