Lt 32 Thoughts

So, after testing LT32 against some of my known loads I would say it is maybe a little slower than expected. Very close to N133, not nearly as fast as H322, maybe a tick slower than the new AA2015. Very smooth and forgiving. Not peaky at all. Burns pretty clean, not as clean as N133 (which might be the cleanest burning powder in the world when it is running good) but it burns very clean and the carbon comes out really easy. The carbon is very DARK not ashy at all.

Here is my thought, if anyone has any influence like @BartsBullets. If LT-32 is "fast batch" of Mil spec old 8208 and this powder is run on that machine, can they run a SLOW batch of this powder and make it close to H4895? The kernel size is INSANE small and so easy to meter. If you could tweak it to be a grain slower you might have the greatest 4895 substitute ever made.

I shoot LT 32 in everything I use for competition. This includes a couple of 220 Beggs, 6 Beggs and several 6PPCs. I have not changed a load in several years. I would be very disappointed if Accurate changed the formula for LT 32 at all. It definitely isn't broke and doesn't need fixing.

It just may be my rifle, but I have a load w/LT 32 and current XBR8208 that will shoot exactly to the same point of impact.
I could mix them in the shell box and never know the difference, except 8208 has more recoil. Your mileage may vary. LDS

Oh I am not saying that. I am saying that they could develop another powder. Not change Lt-32. Lt-30 is a tweaked LT-32. I say tweak it the other way for a run and call it BR8208.

@LarryDScott

I was thinking the same thing... Using LT-32 in my 6BR for 80s as if it was 8208, but I suspect the load charge is slightly different.

You have to careful comparing lots of LT32 and 133. Both powders have tended to vary based on year/batch significantly! I believe I’ve had 4 different lots of LT32 and no telling how many of 133, I’ve shot. Both have varied a good bit as far as velocity per powder charge. General rule of thumb my LT 32 has run a grain hotter then 133.

As far as pull with the makers of LT32 that’s not me! Lou Murdica is the man that brought us LT32, LT30 and was instrumental in getting us March Scopes. He would be the guy!

bart,
i think with lou's new job, any more powder building is very limited

IIRC Lou Murdica was also instrumental in IMR marketing XBR8208 which was also supposed to duplicate T-32/ T-322. So if U want a powder developed to your exact requirements ( well- close to exact.....or maybe just closeo_O) you may find a powder manufacturer to comply along with a commitment to buy a couple thousand pounds - cash up front of course.

not only did lou put up the money, ,he took pre orders. i was on the list. then the mfg decides to market it themselves.actual details unknown. just know my very early place on the list disappeared and the production powder was close but no cigar. it is physically larger than the original, and as such does not meter as well as the original.

Wasn't this the same guy who touted that LT30 was going to be the next best thing since sliced bread in the 30BR? It was suppose to achieve something like 150 to 200 more FPS than H4198? Well the final production run was nothing like the stuff that he was testing evidently.

It works pretty well in a PPC! Pretty hard to beat 4198 in a 30BR!

Your right Bart, but when this powder was being marketed, it was suppose to be the ultimate 30BR powder. Lt32 was already out and being used with good success in the PPC, and your right again as far as H4198 goes in the 30BR. That is THE powder for that caliber.

In my initial tests, I do not find my lot Lt 32 to be faster than my lot of AA2015.

But I didn't think that LT 32 is a tweaked batch of AA2015, I thought it was supposed to be run on the same machines as the original Thunderbird 8208.

2015 can be lots of 32 that did not make the cut. not the other way around. lt30 is a early try at 32 that did not make the cut. lou asked if they had a powder that would do xxx..the engineers said yes you just rejected it as lt32.
