Texas fly shoots

Which poses a burning question.

In the results, who is or who is not using a Muzzle Brake (even a Sound Moderator) and what calibre.

Since in Australia we certainly are not allowed to use either at a competition so the only way to find out information is to ask you guys. Anyone prepared to say if you have an advantage or not..??

BTW...I was hoping that anyone using a Muzzle Brake would have that noted against their entry so we in Australia can discount that score against anything shot over here.

We don't have those nice baffles between benches, some benches are so close together that anything up in the big calibres near blows your glasses of anyway if you are sitting next door and just about to fire a round.

It's still great fun though.

So, waiting to hear about a 200 Yard Rimfire Fly Shoot. There are a number of them happening here this year.

Mike will have to answer for sure, but I don’t remember seeing any brakes. I saw a few were removed - exposed threads on muzzles.

Fair enough, will see.
I was only going on the photos I looked at from last shoot and curious as to what if any difference it made in scores.
Canberra at this stage looks like not having the wild weather again. Fingers crossed.

Mike addressed this issue last year. The rifles with brakes are excluded from the team competition. FWIW... I know of only 1 rifle that was shot with a brake installed.

Okay, so it still remains a mystery.

Would have been nice to know what it means in competition.

I have a couple of "clamp on Muzzle Brakes" that I have tested up to 6mm (.243W) and I know they make a difference to recoil but haven't ever gone into comparing for accuracy. They don't fit what I have and used for 500 Metre Fly.

Hope you all had a really great day. The place looks really great and hardy a cloud in the sky. Mirage, well, that's a lot of fun with a Fly Target and it's colours.

All the very best for the next shoots, enjoy.

One local shooter came Friday afternoon and asked if he could shoot to gain experience. He was shooting a hunting rifle with a muzzle brake. That was the only rifle at the match with a brake. The few guys that used brakes last year either took them off or rebarreled for this year.

I know I'm pushing the point and I can work the first part out myself looking at the results for the person with the best target score. The best group score is / has not been mentioned and don't know if you guys over there even acknowledge that achievement.

To me and quite a few friends this is all apart of Fly Shooting opposed to the specific Benchrest style.

I see Wagga Wagga in their 200 Yard Fly Shoot are including a "Factory Class" Rimfire ...ie no Target Rifles... Now that is going to be a whole deal of fun. I know my old ancient .22LR Brno Model 2 can hold it's own against target rifles...ie around the top ten so...

I might just have to get a medical clearance to see if I can do the 5 hour trip (each way) for the weekend shoot before I expire.

Well we ate crow last week. The Aussies whooped up on us. Our #1 man,Denny Henderson came in second place after combining our scores with the guys shooting in Australia. We didn’t have another score on the board till 12 places later.
We will get them at the next postal match on May 5th.
