info on 223

Is their anybody out there that has any info, about building a 223 TR gun. I am thinking about using Sierra 95's or Berger 90's and a 30inch barrel, I would like to push them in the 2700-2800 range. I am hearing I need a 6 1/2 to 6 3/4 twist, but was wondering if I could get by with a 7 twist, by pushing them in the 2700 2800 range. I am also hearing that the 6 1/2 will blow up the Bergers at that velocity. I talked to Sierra and their thinking was I could get away with a 7 twist in a 30 inch at that velocity. I hear there is a article out there, but I don't have the name. any help would be appreciated

Im shooting Sierra 95s in a 30 inch 7 twist at 2770. Brass life will probably be about 3 but hopefully 4 firings. You'll need about .300-320 freebore, and a 32 inch barrel would increase brass life a little. If you want a little more BC then a 6.5-6.7 twist would work. I personally wouldnt go faster than a 7 for the Bergers.

Running the 95s at over 2800 is possible but you should expect to replace brass very often. Ive been to 2820 in the 30 inch but it didnt shoot there. 2850 might be doable with a 32 inch tube.

@gstaylorg has posted quite a bit in the 22 cal reloading section.

I have tested 95’s in a 1:7 with .169 freebore. I will shoot nice groups but velocity too slow for my liking. I run this barrel with Berger 90’s at 2820 and works very well. Greg is only one I know who is close to figuring out the 95’s in a 223. Will it keep up with Bergers is too early to tell. Hope to see it in action in St. Louis at Sierra Cup.

I use a 1-7" twist, 28" Kreiger, 80gr & 90gr. Bergers. There is good build info here on the Forum, 7 pages of .223 Rem. 90gr, you don't have to search by name alone.
