I received my FX120i and Autothrower/Trickler package from Cambridge a week and a half ago.

It was pre programmed, all I did was mount the thrower, level the scale, and start it up. I was immediately throwing charges to within +/- .02 grains. Some adjustment of the slider on the rear electronics may be needed to get a fast, accurate throw. I did no adjusting of the Trickler base for powder delivery, it works fine just sitting level on my bench. My bench is solid 1 1/2 thick plywood and aluminum top, and is bolted to the concrete foundation of the house, so it is level and rock solid.

There were no problems, it all went together OK, there was no programming needed by me. I did buy a calibration weight which I used once. I put two bends in the powder delivery straw to slow down the powder dump.

I did install the wind shield on the trickler side, and Dremeled a 1/2 dia hole for the trickler tube. Be careful in drilling a hole with a typical drill bit, which has a tendency to create cracks in plastics. You can also drill a small hole then file it to size.

The scale just sits there on a number. The number may change .02, for example from 29.20 to 29.22. It doesn't also change to 29.18, meaning it just varies by .02 , not by .04.

As to all the mumbo-jumbo about electrical stuff changing the readings, I had my cell phone in my pocket, I have a 8 foot two tube fluorescent fixture immediately above my bench, another one immediately in line over the adjacent bench, and another one about 5 feet behind and 5 feet to the side. The scale readings are solid, and only vary by .02, which is expected, as that is the limit of the resolution of the scale.

I also ran the setup on a battery pack, and results were the same. I have a 26000 mah pack that puts out 12 vdc at over 3 amps. BEWARE when using a battery pack, the polarity on the power input plug to the scale is reversed from most other electronic devices. Be sure you match the polarity of the power supply which comes with the package.

This package is a solid , reliable , accurate and FAST method of delivering a powder charge. I am very happy with the setup.

Congratulations to Adam and Cambridge for this great product package.

When I got my FX-300i (same as the 120 except capacity) it gave me fits. The readout floating all over, changing on it's own. Most of the problem was the house electric. I had to get a TrippLite 1200 line conditioner before it would settle down. Now it is so stable it's scary. It weights the exact same weight over and over and never misses unless the conditions drastically change. A good way to check is get a couple test weights near what you weigh your charges, anything, a bullet, a pistol case, a bolt or nut. As you are loading spot check it every few loads. It shouldn't change at all. I haven't re-calibrated mine in over 6 months and it's always right on the money. My settings are:

Mode: FAST
Cond: 0
Stability: 0
Hold: 0
Zero Tracking: 1

The most critical thing is getting the scale dead level. Look directly straight down at the bubble level and get it centered. If the scale is moved or bumped, you need to reset it level again. Change your lights to LED's. No interference plus they are much brighter. And give it a few seconds to settle down on each weighing. Sometimes a rapid movement with make the numbers jump up or bown by one increment but in a second or two, it is ok. Early on, I tried static pads, wrist straps, sprays, and nothing seemed to help. One thing that did was putting 2 line ferrite filters on the power cord. I had some cheap ones that didn't work. I ordered these and installed them according to the instructions which was double wrapping the power cord through them. That made an instant improvement and the line conditioner took care of the rest. If you look around you may find them for less. These work and the ebay specials I had before didn't at all.

Having followed T-shooter's scale saga, I have no doubt that the things he mentioned worked for him.

However, I have installed quality ferrite beads and substituted a lab grade DC power supply for wall-wart transformers . . . near zero ripple, no spikes, "no" voltage variation . . . and they had absolutely no effect on the fluttering issues I experienced on other scales.

What I'm trying to point out is that your specific scale and your specific environment may or may not be suffering from the same issues listed fixes might possibly cure. Also, the user may think he's fixed his issue with (eg) a ferrite bead only to later see the issue return.

Before T-shooter's story I would have said the FX-120i was immune to local RF and electrical issues. After? Well, it's at least among the best at soldiering through them lol.

I say a little prayer every night that the problem won't return! Like I said, it's scary stabile right now. I could take 5 different test weights and weigh each one after the other 50 times and the readings will be 100% exactly. Still I always spot check it while loading. When I first got it, I was very tempted to send it back and forget electronic scales. Glad I didn't.

I went through several scales finding one I could trust. I had most of these in the last year. Most were returned. The large US Solid balance on the lower right was accurate to +/- .0004 grams. It was suppose to be able to weight in grains but didn't. Very sensitive and slow to use. No good for reloading. The little red MTM is good for spot checks like making sure you didn't load a round without powder. The beam scales weren't that good. I had the Lee and threw it into the trash and bought the Hornady. I thought it was accurate but later found out depending on where the balance pivot sat, it could vary 3/10 between loads while the needle showed the exact same reading. The Veritas could be described as a Float-a-matic, even on battery power, by far the worst of the bunch. The GemPro 300 was decent for what it was and it would weight to +/- .02 grains 95% of the time. The Hornady Autocharger was a gift but not accurate enough to precision reload with. It's ok if you set it 1/10 under and then trickle up on the FX.

Question I bought a scale not to long ago from you. How hard is it to install auto dispenser and tricker and program after the fact?

Its very easy, the system was designed by Autotrickler.com to be very easy
you simply take the back plate off the scale, attach the RS-232 to the back of the scale, Follow the easy Programming steps laid out in the manual, set the trickler and thrower up and with a little fine tuning you should be up and running 30 minutes or so

if you have any questions please feel free to call CE Products @ 1-800-535-3751
