Lee collet die vs Whidden f/l bushing die

As expected, I’m seeing good arguments on both sides as I usually do whenever I see a similar discussion on other forums although the discussion here is much more cordial than many that I’ve seen.

Maybe I should leave well enough alone. I’m getting consistent .6 to .75 MOA 10 shot groups at 200 yards with my RPR and current sizing procedure. I haven’t shot 200 yard groups with the Savage yet but .5 MOA 5 shot groups at 100 yards are the norm. I already have the collet die and just thought I might try it

I don't doubt the lee die will work well. I thought I'd try a custom die from whidden since I heard good things about them. Plus im not sure anybody else is making 6brai dies yet. My reamer is a tick different then others

I'm not aware of anyone who uses Lee Collet Dies that gets consistent 10-shot sub half MOA results through 200 yards.

That said, one may well use that die to get their best groups.

The same could be said for many people using custom dies. Having used both I could not see a definitive difference between the two. Concentricity was better with the LCD.

Is it possible that some folks just can't believe that the $20 LCD could possibly work?
I load for 2 palma rifles (mine and my son's team rifle) and have run the gamut from redding / whidden bushing dies to the Lee LCD.
The most concentric / consistent loads come from the LCD.
In proper hands (my son's, not mine!) the loading method was good enough for him to set a NRA national record.

I use the Lee Neck Die. It gives me less runout than either other neck dies or FL bushing dies.

Follow the procedure reprinted in Kielly's post above. It works. If you need substitute mandrels to go either larger or smaller with neck diameter, they are cheap enough.

Of course, a single match result is a valid claim its ammo loading technique is best.

The .0077" 5-shot group record at 100 comes from stuff that made no others. The smallest group or highest score is always the best indicator. All the others don't matter.

My personal experience is that the Lee Collet die gives me the least run out. I love my Whiddon dies but I’ve taken the bushing out and just use them to size the body. I size the neck last in the Lee Collet. To get more neck tension in my hunting rifles I turned my mandrels down to give .003” neck tension. Actually both are a little more than .003” as I overshot my mark both times. The referenced instructions are the same I use. It doesn’t take much force to size the necks with the Lee Collet die. The Wilson seating dies are the best I’ve ever used. Adjustments are spot on with the markings. Lee makes some really good working products at bargain prices. My $20 Lee Perfect Powder Measure has repeatedly reclaimed its spot on my bench after I’ve spent big dollars on “better” powder measures. I simply throws bigger stick powders better that anything else I’ve tried.

Lee makes good stiff cheaply. Reminds me of Chinese tools. I bet if they upped their fit and finish and started charging more (and maybe use a different name), a whole lot more people would take them seriously.

I do!
Works out past all the flags that say 900 &1000 yards.
Try it.
I also crimped them too!,,lol
