Amazing bolt bush job by Grimstod.

I'm still working the kinks out of a Savage 12BR in 6BR, trying to get it ready for 600 yard F class matches in the Spring. I've been getting really frustrated as I've had HORRIBLY cratered primers with some totally pierced. This was with moderate loads, low to mid 29 grain Varget loads with 105 VLD's and 105 Amax bullets.

I quickly realized the excessive firing pin hole clearance may be to blame. Initially I was looking at Gretan but found Ben aka Grimstod in a thread discussing the issue. I ended up sending him my bolt and his workmanship, turnaround time and pricing has been exceptional. I had the bolt back in just at a week. He communicated every step of the way to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. I opted to not have him machine the entire bolt face so that my headspacing would remain the same. I believe my initial pin/hole clearance was .008"-.010", Ben got it down to .001".

My only regret is I didn't take "before" pictures of my brass, they rivaled the worst cratered brass I've seen searching the web, not to mention the piercing.

Below are pictures of the bushed bolt head and brass I shot today, notice absolutely no cratering and a nicely flattened primer. Thanks Ben!

My first thought was "How do you know it's an amazing job? A good bolt bushing job is invisible." But I agree, that's the way it's supposed to look. And that's how every primer will look from now on. Sleep peacefully. --Jerry

thanks for sharing that -its always good
to get this kind of info.

Hay everyone thank you for your interest. I have had a lot of requests to do Rem 700 bolts but at this time I do not do them. I am very efficient with the savage bolts and though I have done some 700s I feel it is best to stick with what I do best and the most efficiently. I will some day do Rem style bolts for other yet only will I do them, when I know I can do them with perfection. Thanks again.

Thank you Zane for all the kind words. It is much appreciated.
