Its so sad that certain people feel the need to take advantage of others.
When their last day is done here on earth they will have to awnser for all the bad deads they have done. Thats on them.

Thanks.....I looked on ebay AFTER the scam and purchased one. This whole adventure was to enter a 22LR VETS turkey shoot this Sat. No scopes allowed and I had restocked this one decades ago because I added a Weaver B4 with N4 mount and that stock has a cheek piece that does not really allow for iron sight use. I learned a bunch from this mistake but that aside when I looked through that B4 scope it was like looking thru a straw that was painted black!
Just through kicking myself for doing this which I would have been so damn quick to warn someone else NOT to do.

I got scammed on a CZ Czechmate pistol. Much more money but it was my pride that was hurt the most. Shoot, it still hurts and it’s been over a year. Lesson learned for both of us.

It is a cheap lesson BUT I knew I should not have done it to begin with. So what the hell possessed me to proceed. I am getting old (maybe).

What possessed you? We, as the "shooting public", believe that we have the best, most honest people in any "community" around. We as "shooters" are! However, there is NO VENUE that has not been invaded by con artists. So, believing that this particular scammer MAY NOT BE a scammer, BUT simply a "shooter", who happens to be a newbie to our forum, overrode your suspicions.. That my friend is simply being a trusting human being. I for one would rather be a bit wiser now, than a NON-trusting, always wary of everyone and everything, miserable person..

You are not stupid, just unwary. I've dealt with other shooters and suppliers without issue (folks I know in the shooting scene tend to be a more honourable demographic). There is nothing that surprises me these days although Nigerian scammers on a site like this is a new one. I've had reasonable luck with eBay but some Chinese suppliers are very ordinary. EBay resolution is lacking as well.

In this case, the address given is an empty lot where a single wide trailer use to reside. Box is probably still there, so it becomes the old fashioned 'dead letter drop' thing. The mail goes in....wait and after the all clear someone nearby claims it and runs home. The scammer lives within 100 yards I'm guessing. The neat thing is the mail box 'theft' makes it a Federal Offense.

NO ONE cares about that theft, I promise you. Not the postmaster, nor the deputies, nor the feds. So even if it is an offense, forget trying to get anyone to help pursue it.
It would be more fun to stake out the mailbox, see who is using it, find a creative way to see to it his profits start being expenses.
I may be scammed someday but it will be with someone like myself, a serious shooter. I would not consider sending money without having their telephone no and speaking with them by phone. Most calls are 30 minutes or so because we talk guns. If he is not a shooter, he could not survive that session, period. If I have any doubts, I will call them a SECOND time before sending money. I expect them to also have a presence on some well known site such as this one and not to have joined yesterday. I pay attention to spelling and structure of sentences that might well show someone in Africa doing the normal scam.

Contact the ATF?
I ALMOST got scammed on a gun purchase, but doing some Dick Tracy stuff saved my butt. They even sent me a copy of (someones) drivers license, and an altered FFL. I contacted the ATF, and ended up working with an agent for about 7 months to get them... kind of.
Nigeria based. Women act as mail order brides that need money to get into the country. They ask little lonely old men to cash random checks for them and send them the cash. The checks go to a bogus address, get collected and are forwarded to the little old man. The little old man cashes the checks, and sends one from him to his bride-to-be. The money is essentially laundered at that point.
Pictures and descriptions of products are taken randomly from the internet and posted as for sale. Guns, TV's, antiques, you name it. It's a huge cash cow for the bad guys, and the ATF can't keep up with it. I got lucky, and someone was assigned to help me.
The crappy thing was that the lonely little old man is the one that got busted first. He had no clue why, or what he had done wrong. The ATF guy didn't want to bust him, and it was up to the U.S Attorney if he would be prosecuted or not. The names and addresses he had were bogus as well of course, and were out of the country, and the ATF's jurisdiction.
We were finally able to con a bad guy into thinking he would be picking up a large check from a specific place for a non existent Colt Python that led to a bust of a SMALL ring of bad guys in the U.S. I doubt it made even a tiny dent in internet scams. This was a scam posted on Armsli..
My phone AND the agents were hacked during this. Yes, they got all mine, and all the agents numbers and contacts. I was scared for about a year about what other things would follow or happen because of it, but luckily nothing other than calls from weird numbers until I got a new phone. They are hacking gurus apparently, and my computer was compromised as well.
Makes ya mad enough to go there and kick a guys butt though right!?? I had to get a new phone, new number, email address and a new computer! At least some bad guys were caught, but the price was very high. Since I was involved, I was on call for a trial if needed as well. Not cool.
I feel for you, and I'm not sure I can recommend the ATF, but giving them the scam address, and any info you have may help them in the future, or on a present case. Choose wisely, and never buy from a newbie with 0 transactions. Always let someone else be brave, stupid and first.
