320 to 1200 grit . Larry

I have lapping compounds would you just put it on the race ways and work back and forthand can you put some tape on the rear of the bolt lugs to keep it from messing up the head space? RW

It is a Rem 700 SPS Blued and They are all pretty rough not like the were back in the day!
I have used them and have just tried to work them over and over and that sure didn't work! Can a guy just start with the coarse grit and only lapp a little and then do it a little longer as you work up to the finer grits? t I know you would have to clean between grits. RW

+1 That's what I do. 320 gets the job done working the bolt while watching T.V. ........ My older model Varmint special has the same sand blast finish on action but has a jeweled bolt.( nice and slick) So it appears Remington saved a little time and money on the SPS version. Way to go Remington

Had same problem... It was the cocking ramp. The part of the bolt body that the base of the knob handle rubs against.

Polish it or at least keep it lubbed.
