6xc vs 6x47 vs 6mm creed

Why choose one over the other? What are the ups and downs to each. Pretty much settled on the 6x47 lapua but want to make sure I'm making the right choice

Got a 6x47 myself to compliment my 243. It's more efficent than a 243 and has a better case design and you got Lapua brass. That's my vote. I think the Creedmoor is overrated. IF THIS was my first 6mm I think you should go 243 Winchester...

Why would you say to go 243 win if it's someone's first?

First, I don't know your intention of this rifle. The 243 Winchester dies will be cheaper than the rest and the brass too. If you decide to resell the 243 it will get you a better turnaround than these oddball cartridges. This was my first 6mm and I'm on my 3rd barrel now for my 243. There's a lot of public information with the 243 as well. These other cartridges not as much but they're successful too. I personally feel the 243 is a good cartridge to start with. My 243 shoots as good as my 6x47 Lapua and I use H1000 in mine. I heard people are using R-26 and getting ridiculous velocities. I'll have to play around with it sometime. The only downside to the 243 is the barrel life, but running H1000 I see no reason I wont get 2k accurate shots out of mine.

I appreciate the response. I've had and love the 243. Win! Both factory rifles, one shot the 87gr vmax like it was going out of style and the other shot 105 Amax around the .5-.75 Moa fairly regularly! Love that caliber but don't like mag restrictions, or barrel life. Plus I like the odd ball effect certain calibers have.

I'm building a 6mm to sister my custom 260. Rem. for something to shoot while the other is cooling down, and to get buddies behind rifles to teach them too shoot while not necessarily pulling me off the trigger all day lol. I'm looking for another rifle to target practice, and some hunting with. When building the 6.5 I wanted a 6.5x47 lapua and maybe a 6.5 creed but was recommended numerous occasions to go with a 260 for the reasons you mentioned. I love my 260. Rem and it shoots incredible but I still have that itch for an odd ball and figured a 6x47 might fill that void.

Well the 6xc is large primer so if you have a large firing pin in an unbushed bolt you could run into primer issues with a small primer cartridge such as the x47 or the lapua creed brass. the 6xc doesnt have lapua brass with out creating it.

If youre wanting to run slow powders to preserve barrel life the creed gets the nod there over the others.

The x47 would have less brass work over all I imagine

So it depends on what youre looking for.

6brai (same velocity as dasher, but easy to form brass) - 3000 to 3050 fps

6x47 can get you 3150+

Both are very accurate rounds.

Do you care about barrel life?

One thing I don't like about the 6x47 Lapua is necking the cases down from 6.5 to 6mm. That gave me some neck issues. However, after they were fired once I had no issues. Something to think about if you're still deciding between the 6mms. I would imagine the 6mm Creedmoor would have the same issue too.

What issues are you having? I have used two different dies without issues. The Forster FL non bushing die and the Redding Type S FL die with a bushing. Both have produced great results.

Used the Forester FL non- bushing and got neck inconsistences. The bullet concentricity was screwed up too on the first firings.

Do you neck turn?

For the OP I would vote the 6x47 for the brass.

Neck turned some and didn't neck turn others and still had neck issues with both methods. You can tell it's a neck issue too with the first firings because the powder residue after the case is fired is uneven on the necks. And the smith who barreled the rifle did a good job so that's not an issue. I backed the die off too and still didn't help.

Uneven soot is because the brass is still forming up to the new shape? I am no supper expert here though, Even my BRX did that. Also my 6.5x47 did it the first firing. Had uneven soon on my 54rImproved too and that never went away. Not the smiths fault, just bad reamer design i think.

How tight is your neck?

All 3 cartridges can perform similarly. I found the 6XC to be slightly easier to tune. But I like Lapua brass of the other 2 offerings.
