Warning to Travelers

There's a lot of reason for discussion about rafts of petty laws that are selectively enforced against minorities and the poor which keep them in a constant cycle of missing work for court appearances, fees for non-payment of fines, which build up forever and which they can never escape. The extension of this is a system of other laws (e.g. tax and gun) that are just about impossible not to break. I have frequently said that eventually there will only be two classes of offenses: parking tickets and federal felonies. The object is to make everyone a felon so that only the government has any rights. One of the initial reasons I got a concealed carry permit was that it was a "get out of jail free" card for the Federal "Gun Free School Zones Act". I'm sure that if the FBI really investigated anyone of us, they could come up with some obscure felony for which we could be prosecuted. ITMT one just has to do the best he can to obey the laws he knows about and trust that a jury will understand.

fwiw the sullivan law is a new york city law forbidding anyone to carry a firearm in the new york city limits it goes back quite a ways I think it was passed in the 20,s due
to all of the shooting during the bootleg years. I have a NYS carry but it is not valid in the New York city area It's really dumb because there are plenty of
Illegal hand guns in the streets all you need is Cash and contacts to get one. Everyone know s it too.

I have an HR218 which is valid everywhere, including NYC. The beauty of a Federal Permit vs State and local I guess.

HR (house Resolution) 218 was the law (Federal Law Enforcement Act) that granted active duty officers and retired law enforcement officers the right to carry concealed. It is codified in 18 USC § 926B[4] and USC § 926C. It is basically a CCW on a Federal Level. I am required to requalify every year on an approved course of fire given by FDLE here in Florida. Mine is in September. This permit being Federal preempts state and local laws on the right to carry. However if a business with signage says no, then I have to comply. A city cannot say no however as it overreaches their authority on 2nd amdt.

Technically you have to be employed bu or retired from a police or prison agency and have the statutory authority to carry a firearm and make arrests. Not sure if being a member of the Sheriff's Posse would qualify or not. Your department also has to be willing to issue you the ID.

Lot of harsh language here. Don't assume everyone spends the same time we spend on the internet studying firearms issues including laws. To some people firearms aren't a way of life. And the you ask a friend who sounds like they know what they're talking about and say, "sure, it's ok". Anyone here ever gotten bad advice?

Naive is probably a good description.

I believe anyone who's somehow involved with firearms is at least slightly aware of the draconian gun laws in the northeast and the west coast and ALL major cities. Enough to know they should do some research before traveling to or through any of them. Having said that, you can plead your case of being dumb, foolish or uninformed to the judge but ignorance of the law is no excuse.
Remember Johnny Cochran's famous rejoinder, "You're innocent until you run out of money".

But I read in a forum on the internet that it would get you out of all kind of trouble.
MUST be true, I mean Bill didn't have sex with that woman and the whole world believed him for about 3 nano seconds or so. IF Bill had been accurate, can you imagine how many divorce settlements would have been overturned on appeal?

Anti-American? No. Not hardly. It's State's Rights.
There have had issues like for a long time. There are states that have their own concealed carry, but do not recognize a concealed carry permit from other states. Some states might only recognize permits from this state, that state, and the other state, but not other states that have concealed carry statutes. And now the bigger issue of transporting guns and large amounts of cash from state to state with all the border cartel violence.

New York, especially New York City, has had a no firearms at all point of view. And even though I don't agree with it, I can kind of understand why. 12 million people cramped together in a few square miles? And it's been that way since the 50's or 60's that I know of. (Books). Of course the way they did it was seriously chicken-shit.

Why weren't they warned that might, or probably will happen? That's the stuff lawsuits are made of. ;)
