Annealing 7.62x54R brass

As soon as I have some extra $$$ I'll get some 4350. Right now all my money is going into my Astro van trying to get the front end from shaking when applying the brakes. Before anyone says anything, I've already replaced the rotors twice and the brake pads and bearings once with no luck at all. I'm stumped to what is making it shaked like it's a warped rotor.

Sierra 174s and H4350 is one of the hest combinations for this case. Start at 52gr and work up. Most fond an excelent node at 54gr. This is PPu brass data. If your trying out the excelent Lapua 7.62x53r then start at 51gr.

Anealing with PPU is a must after 5 reloads. The Lapua stuff can go much longer.

What OAL did you use with the Sierra's?

OK, just came back from Sportsman's Warehouse with a pound of Accurate 4350. They had some 8ld'ers but I thought I'd try some out before buying so much just in case it doesn't work for me. Also looked for some Sierra 174's MatchKing but they didn't have any so I guess I can try the Hornady 174's #3131

I use 2.95 OAL. I use the same loads in all my Mosins and my PSL's.

Also the SMK and the Hornady bullet you have are very similar.

Good that they are similar because I can't find any of the SMK's other than online and it seems everyone charges almost twice the real shipping amount.

Midway has the SMK's in stock.

About the only difference I see in them is-

HPBT vs FMJ
No cannelure vs Cannelure
And the SMK has better BC

Firing from a iron sighted Mosin I don't think you would ever know the difference.

I can't find any load data in any of the books I have using 4350 for the 174gr bullets. Are these loads all of your own?

All 4350s are not the same but I have found that Accurate and IMR are very close in fact I use them the same in some of my loads. The
Accurate manual list 51 grs AA4350 as a max load with 180 gr .311 bullets. I find that 50 grs gives the best accuracy for me. I can't remember which manual it was in, maybe Lyman, but 52 grs IMR 4350 was listed as max.

Maybe for the 80gr but nothing for the 74gr in Hornady, Lyman, Sierra or Speer. I haven't looked in the Nosler book yet.
I'll just start low and work up with what you guys gave me and see what happens but it won't be for at least another week, the temps are going to be in the 114° most of this upcoming week and I fear the bullets would just melt mid-air if I shot them!!!! :)

It depends on the reamer used. Some I have an OAL of 3.25 and some 2.85. Do you know how to find your lands?
Every rifle is different. I always find the lands for each rifle.

I'm getting ready to load up some 7.62x54R brass and was wondering if I should anneal them first since I will be resizing .308 sized brass to .311 brass? I'm thinking that since I'm stretching out the brass a little that it might be a good idea. The brass I am using is both new and once fired.

When Tzar Nikolai counts out 3 arshins and 5 bubliki.
Or when your accuracy starts to go south without any other changes.

Oh no, not again. Every time I start talking about this I get mixed up thinking it's the ogive but yes, I do know how to find the lands.

Good Make sure you do that. Mosins and PSLs really have a lot of variety when it comes to OAL.

Well, without even checking to see what it is, I know for sure it can shoot ammo that has a OAL of 3.022" because that's what the surplus ammo is that I measured. Probably will never load any longer than that.

A friend that I work with some times has an Astro van. He calls it the dog. I asked him "why, seems like it does what you need real well?" He tells me that only GM could name a truck after a dog. I ask "what are you talking about?" George Jetsons dog was named Astro.
