Now y'all have done it!

One way to find out stu. You wouldn't believe how tight it shot in two dashers here. But barrel life wasn't very good. If I was ever going to build a br or dasher again I would run it without any hesitation.

hey guys just question
why use H4895 over varget? when i was using my 6BR i used ADI 2208/varget as it was the powder to use having tried 2206H and RL15 in my gun, i now shoot 6BRX and i found it easy to tune like my 6BR and i still use ADI 2208/varget (32.4gr with 105gr hybrids)
H4895 is equivalent to our ADI 2206H which is a faster powder, just wondering why this over the varget

Really need to try both 2208 and 2206H, some guys shooting 600and 1000 BR are shooting lights out with both. I've got plenty of both so will let you know once I've got the BRAI tuned and ready to go how both powders went.

Cheers Rushty

After long consideration, I am going to use a new barrel instead of re-chambering the Dasher barrel. Now to find the barrel of my choice. My preference is for a Bartlein 4-groove .236, but they seem to be as scarce as Bigfoot. It seems that Bartlein is really committed to 5R and .237 bore. Does anyone know where I can find a HV .236 4-groove Bartlein that will finish at 28 inches. I know that I could order one from Bartlein, but the 600yd competition at the range where I shoot would be over for the year before I got it. Thanks, James

Can't say for sure if its a .236 bore, might have to call to see. They sure do like stocking those 5rs everywhere

Now I am patiently (NOT) waiting. I found the barrel that I wanted at Southern Precision and had it shipped to COL Stevens. I have received the FL die from Harrell's and I have loaded 50, 6BR cases for fire forming. I am all set except that the reamer has not arrived. JGS, are you listening?:) Good shooting....James

It's hard waiting, Alex probably gets tired of hearing from me.. I haven't even used a Dasher so BRA is my first 6 Bench gun..

Ray
I dont mind, I get it. Been there. Should be done with paint this week and final glue in next week and I'll ship it out. My carbide bra reamer is on its way :) It is by far my most used reamer. Have a zero here and no turns coming. I think I will be ordering a re-size reamer for it too. The Harrell's have been great, but there is some inconsistency there.

I have no doubt that a 6BRAI will shoot...but where does this voodoo magic come from? What makes it better than a 6BR, BRX, BRDX, or a Dasher? Trust me, I'm all about new stuff and proving things out. I realize that small differences can and do matter, but the claims are a little too good to believe.

I've now been on both sides of a 6.5 Grendel...necking it up to 30 and necking it down to 6mm. I've played with several Dashers, even more BRs. some BRX's and a few BRDX's.

On necking up a Grendel...I do think it is better than a 30BR, but that's after many barrels and God knows how many bullets fired. After all of that, over the last 10 years of shooting one, it still comes down to bullets, barrels and not pulling the trigger at the wrong time. The other differences are there, but small. I'm sure it's a great cartridge. It has to be...being that it falls so closely to so many other great ones....

but, I'm not sold yet.

p.s.--The jury is still out on my 6 Grendel, but it does show a lot of promise. It has a large hill to climb, unseating a PPC in short range, or any of the long range BR based cartridges in long range. And I'm not sure there is any benefit of a Grinch over the straight 6 Grendel. I guess I'm just a bit of a skeptic, but I do enjoy the ride and think there are still gains to be made over what is today considered by many to be the end all, be all cartridges..in short and long range.

I think the voodoo magic is the speed 2985 f/s. I have had 5 BRX barrels, when working up accuracy loads, they all shot at 2975 f/s. The BRX, Dasher, BRDX, etc. can run 3100 f/s, but they shoot best at 2975 f/s. The BRA runs the perfect speed. But with all of these BR imp cases, it is you given barrel, any of these rounds would shoot. The last BRX barrel Mike Davis did for me with Richard Shatz input, was cut to 26" to keep the speed and pressure down. I worked the load up at the range, the speed was 2975 f/s on the money. I think alot of guys are pushing the speed too hard.

I got a call from a customer who took his new bra to a match. He obviously had a very fast lot of H4895. He said recoil was noticeable stiff but bolt lift was good. He chony'd the load later and it was running 3120 fps! These little BRA cases will take some pressure. But 2980-2990 seems to be the node in about every one I have done now.

You guys using a LabRadar?

Alex -
What was the charge used to get those speeds? I haven't tried 4895 with the 105 class bullets, and don't see a need as long as Varget is around.

He went with a standard 31 grains but obviously his powder is fast. Not uncommon to see with 4895. I have never had Varget give me the accuracy of 4895 or reloader 15 but every barrel is different and you have to try it all

31.1 of h4895 is 2950 in my 26" dasher. I use a magneto speed.

Pros of the bra,
2985 node in a 28" barrel, no speed lose to a dasher
easier/fool proof fireforming, no jamming, false shoulders, hydro, exc.
Longer neck, flame point is inside, longer throat life, throat moves less rifle stays in tune better
One of the best LR shooter suddenly puts down back to back low 3's for 10. Only ever shot one before
I have chambered a lot of these, 20-30, feedback is quite different than dasher feedback
Im 110% convinced its a better case
When you see some of the best switching to it, there is a reason
Makes no difference to me, I didnt sell my dasher reamers :)
Alex, are they shooting the bra at 1000? What is barrel life?

Yes primary 1000, have not worn any out yet but throats move slower than on a dasher. The way they shoot I really don't care
