Y'all asked for it ......
So here it is.
I don't know the actual weight yet. My goal is to have this come in at or below 13 ounces.
Features:
Black Anodized Aluminum Body
Stainless Clamps
10-32 screws
HeliCoil thread inserts
Price = $195.00 (and that includes shipping to any US address)
Nice job on your mount. After reading the post by Alex and being suspicious of my scope I did the same as you. Here's what I ended up with. The plate is 6.82" X 4.50" with the body being 5/8" thick. My intent was make it universal to a long/short action rail. It did come in @ 2lbs, not sure 13 oz. is do able.

Nice job! I am curious about your results. I would love to see you swap the position of the scopes and see if the results are the same.

I might suggest that you make it a dual- purpose test stand. Add a dovetail opposite the weaver mount. Then it would fit Panda and other actions.
You could turn the test stand the other way so that the test scope is still on the desired side.
On the contrary, I am looking to purchase and I havea 2 pandas and 1 borden with a dovetail mount, my only Pic rail is on my heavies. I believe there are more people especially benchrest group or score shooters to test their scope before a big match that want this with dovetail mount on thier actions. Can you make this happen?
So what do y'all think about a base that would attach to a PICATINNY rail or 3/8" DOVETAIL base on your rifle?
Obviously you'd need to use Picatinny Rings on the scopes.
I haven't ran any yet.
I can add this feature to my design.

Guys, Mike Ezell is re-making the Hood checker which is all Davidson rail based, top and bottom. If you want a dovetail checker go that route. Leave Dennis alone so he can finish the picatinny version before one of you guys talk him out of it. Please and thank you.
Couple of weeks before i can have some done.PM sent with my contact info...once I get a response with final costs I'll get payment headed your way. Any idea as to when chips are gonna start flying??? I think most everybody watching this thread is ready to get a checker in hand!!!!!
I've been kicking that idea around for a while now. My reasoning for not offering it with both on the bottom is the inertia of this much weight, plus two scopes, on a heavier recoiling rifle. Most guns with a Davidson style rail fall into a BR category and most(not all) will be small caliber and heavy guns. I feel much safer going this route, myself.I might suggest that you make it a dual- purpose test stand. Add a dovetail opposite the weaver mount. Then it would fit Panda and other actions.

Before agreeing to make these, I asked Charlie Hood for his blessing, first. I didn't want to step on his toes by offering a product that is his design without speaking directly to him first. He agreed and I am making them. I'll be shipping the first ones out early to mid next week.
In speaking with Charlie, the point about inertia came up. Jim Borden ran the numbers for Charlie and determined it a real possibility that base screws can fail under the amount of force generated by the recoil of a rifle with enough recoil energy. Of course there are several factors involved here. Caliber, gun weight, screw size..etc. Bottom line, I decided to err on the side of caution, to the best of my ability. I understand this leaves some people feeling left out or whatever. Believe me, that is not my intent and I wish Dennis well in making his Picatinny version. Rather than me making the pic version, I'm content with Dennis making them. But, as you mentioned, adding a female pic rail on the opposite side of the dovetail is very doable.
For what it's worth, Charlie told me he still has a few of the picatinny version scope checkers on hand. I'm not sure if he will sell them or not.
If a Davidson style is what you need or want, I've started a thread asking for everyone's contact info so I can start shipping them. The first ones will be coming out of the HAAS Friday but I'm gonna shoot this weekend and start shipping mine out next week.
Here's a link to those, if you want to get in on the first run. I don't know when the next batch will be but now that the program is written, I'll likely do more as people want them.
