Accuracy VS velocities

I believe the last two times I went to Weikert to see Nationals that more guys are checking powder with scales. At least that is what I observed from the guys under the roof. I couldn't see what the ones were doing in their motor homes or loading trailers. I would imagine a bunch were using scales and the enclosed area would help with drafts. Matt

It is true that more and more shooters are weighing powder charges; I know that I do. Tony Boyer used his powder measure only to obtain HOF status, but for the last 7-8 years he too is weighing powder charges. Good shooting...James

Ballzer,

I'll tell you what, you have plenty of 1000 yard ranges over that direction. Don't give me the "conditions" bullshit either, the best conditions I've seen in 2 years were closer to your house than mine. Go put an agg together at one of them. When you get to where you can hold my jockstrap, then issue your pointless challenge.

If things aren't going the way you'd like, feel free to call and ask for help. Need to go to my 40 hr per week job now.

Sent with love, :D

Tom

C'mon Tom,

Come out to play! Theres more to the shooting world then two groups before 9am at your favorite Honey hole!

Tell ya what I'll do Jockstrap! You pick which shoot you'd like Super Shoot or IBS Nationals. I'll pick your ass up at the Airport. Haul you to the range and you can stay with me in my camper! Hell, I'll even pay your entry fee! What kind of beer would you like me to pick up?

I can't treat my 1000 yard buddy any better then that.

I got a pretty busy shooting schedule no time to run and play at a range 7 hours away! I don't figure it will be all that difficult it's only 6 targets! I know that's like 1/2 a season worth of shooting for you 1000 yards Deep Creek types! But Hell, we shoot that many warm up targets.

If I were you I'd just stick to what you're good at. Sunrise 1000 yard group shooting!

PS

Not being mean here, but the rest of the 1000 yard community wants to know why yall don't follow the East coast format, like real shooters?

Real shooters? Well no Benchrest shooter is a real shooter. Real shooters shoot prone. And the men among men use a sling. Then if you want to get to manliest of them all... the gong shooter. :)

In reality the real men are getting shot at while we carry on this ridiculous thread.

Lets say for discussion sake we shoot in a zero condition here at deep creek every match. That would really show what the guns were doing right? You would have to have the best tuned rifle possible to win right? As well as assemble the highest quality ammo right? And top shooters from around the country would come here and shoot personal bests every time right? We will hold the IBS Nat here, sooner or later. Hopefully sooner than later. I fully expect to see everyone shooting their smallest groups ever. :)

Don't mean to derail this great thread but I'm still trying to figure out what happens when two competitors fire simultaneously and one guys shot goes right in the group and the other fellows goes out of his group, was the shot that went out, sucked off or blown off. I'd really love to hear you fellows debate this one.

I believe this to be true, especially with brakes. I can't count how many times over the years somebody had to shoot over. Shooting by themselves they almost always win the relay.

Another thing is, I watched one of the best 1000 yard group shooters. He shot small group of the day 8 out of 9 times at 3 different 1000 yard Nationals. I stood behind him every shot he fired. Tried to see what he was watching and when he started his string. I came to the conclusion he was just waiting for everybody to get done so he didn't get caught in a wash. He varied the time but the only thing every relay had in common was he waited till everybody was done. His aggregate In Iowa was 4 something in Heavy with winds that would blow your mind. I had 9 minutes on with a 240 Sierra going 2820. The corn stalks were laying over. Matt

where is a bullet affected the most up close. like Matt you can see it and with brakes it is even worse. I was looking out my scope waiting for the condition to come back and a 300 WSM shot beside me shot and it blew me right out of the scoring rings. The guy on the other side of me it moved him also. so go figure what the air is doing when everybody is shooting..... Jim

What's wrong with 2017? All three Nationals! I'm willing to play your game at 1000, y'all come shoot a little 600, then the 100/200 yard Nats. See which discipline produces the best all around shooter! It will be Epic!

Bart
Well, I have to build tom a ppc for starters LOL Or maybe a BRA and shoot your 80s like Jim. I say dont rock the boat until your winning, so I think he should start with a ppc.

Alex, nothing like having a stacked deck, I think you need a neutral range go to White Horse this years National..... Don't step out to far in front of the benches or you will get to look at the inside of an meat wagon ..... lol Jim

The point was, if your shooting in a tunnel the best load and tune wins. This is a tuning thread. I would expect that since everywhere else has such tough conditions compared to here, anyone who comes here would have the upper hand in reading conditions. So with a .0-.1 tune and superior condition reading abilities it would seem like easy pickings for you guys? When will this thread end?

Hard to beat anybody at their home range, But in reading the conditions at a neutral range levels the playing field... Jim

Where was the sun? Wonder if he wasn't waiting for others smoke to clear his Los.

Tom
Wasn't the sun. Some days it was cloudy. He waited from right after everybody was done till a couple of minutes. Then he ran them. I truly believe he waited different times to the thow off the people watching. Mark King was in his relay a couple of times and even told him at North Carolina he was going to wait till he started. He told him not to do that. Matt

@johara1 -
Are you going to be at White Horse?
Pretty sure the current IBS champion will be. I would like to, but won't be there.

Never been there myself, but some GRRC shooters who have been told me it's conditions aren't to bad, compared to what GRRC can be and did good there, able to beat the locals.

Just chamber him up a barrel for a Bat DS. I'll let him pick one of my three rifles. Which ever one he wants! All three have picked up Hall of Fame points and have National wins. Make the barrel around 5 pounds.

I'll quit beating on the dead horse, because it's not going to come out and play!

Bart

Donovan, No, my days of long range are over. I need a spotting scope to see the flags at 200 yds any more. I saw the whole relay DQ. Depends on a lot there, 99 degrees and the humidity was the same..... isn't fun. Wind is a constant thing and high at times and you sure don't need to worry about people setting wind flags...... lol........ Jim
