Anyone shooting really well either of the 115g. bullets with a 7.5"-or-slower-twist barrel?

Shooting for 60 years and still a novice.

Berger recommends a 7" twist with their 105...

...and their 115...

...but I read elsewhere that a 7.5" twist is plenty fast enough for the 115. The cartridge will be a 6mm XC with a 29" barrel. I'll be rebarreling my Savage 12 Benchrest (again) soon so would appreciate any advice on twist rate that experienced shooters can share. At this point, with nothing in hand, I'll start with Reloader 17 and might try Ramshot Hunter; maybe I can find a great long-distance load without wearing out the barrel.

FWIW, I've assembled all the (limited) reloading data (for 95g. and heavier bullets) I can find into another Excel spreadsheet; this time I've attached it. I've converted all velocities to that from a 29" barrel using Berger's recommended 26FPS per inch.

7.5 is plenty fast enough twist for the 115s. I used it in my .243 years back as my PRS rifle. No problem stabilizing 115s.

Been shooting the 105VLD in 1:7.5 for more than 12 years, the Hybrids since before they appeared. I was fortunate to be picked to test them before introduction.

Even at 2,800 fps in a 6HAGAR spacegun (26") the VLD's are my benchmark; in my 6XC's both VLD & Hybrid at 3,000 - 3,100 fps work great.

115's? Not so much.

Blew up several in a 1:8 26" Schneider years back, still have what's left in the box. DTAC115's work better but I never felt better enough at the speeds I could reach (and still have reloadable brass) to justify over the 105's.

SP, if you want to sell those 115s, pls e-mail me at jeffreybehr(at)cox(dot)net with details.

No problems shooting DTACs in my 8 twist 6 creed.

Wow; maybe 5" on a 1000-yard target? Load? Rifle?

I shot at those in 2006-7 with a Shehane-built 6.5-284Shehane and once shot a 4-9/16" 5-shot group... :D ...and a 7-odd-inch 10-shot group. :D

This was 1.74" at 600 with a load of 41.6grs H4350, 7 times fired Hornady brass, Tula primers. This rifle. <a href="http://imgur.com/fu4rVXN"

WOW again and congrats. The rifle is interesting...I LOVE its satin-black finish--Ceracoat?--but the red-and-white accents are a little wild for me--but I'm just a conservative, chubby old fart.

Here's my Savage 12 Benchrest in 6.5 Creedmoor now but soon to be in 6mm XC. Satin black probably would look great on that, huh?

Yup, it's all ceracoat, Graphite Black, accents of sniper grey, colors match one of my motorcycle helmets, what I wanted. Nah, just leave yours the way it is.

Bought 500 Sierra MK107s (moly-coated), 200 Hornady ELD-M108s, 100 Norma Diamond Line 'High-Quality Match-Grade Ammunition' cartridges, and 500 new Norma cases.

The Normas are loaded with 105g. 'Coated hollow-point Berger' bullets. At the top of the pic is a Hornady 6.5 Creedmoor American Gunner cartridge wearing a 140g. BTHP.

Got the Rifle Basix SAV-2 trigger installed today and am now waiting for Criterion 30" SS 8"-twist barrel from Northland and lots more.

Here's another pic of pairs of 6mmbullets--three candidates for long-range shooting and two more somewhat lighter. Left to right: Berger Hunter95; Sierra MK95; DTAC RBT*115, TBN coated**; Hornady ELD-M108; and Sierra MK107, moly-coated.

I've had the two lower-weight bullets for months, ordered for an AR-15 in 6X45, but the only barrel I could get had a 10" twist, so I never loaded them. In the 6mmXC I'll be using RE17, and my first OCW will be with the 107s. Barrel will be here Thursday.
