PA Semi auto

The PA Farm Bureau has opposed Sunday hunting. Most of the farms where I hunt are owned by deeply religious people that will not permit Sunday hunting regardless what the law says. I personally have no problem hunting on Sunday but I don't want to piss off the farmer who has given me access to his land.

I'm not against ARs, in fact I used one when I was in the Army in the 70's. I realize that this is the new weapon of choice so be it. But after 40+ years of hunting I've never saw the need for a semi-auto rifle for deer or varmint hunting.
Private land is private land and the owners can decide if hunting is permissible on Sunday but 1.5 MILLION acres of state game lands bought with hunting license money and royalties being CLOSED on Sundays doesn't make any sense.

Anyone who thinks getting the foot in the door is enough that we will get big game next year remember this. You can hunt Crows on Sundays (I guess they don't need to go to church) been that way forever but it never tuned into anything else.

Yea you can hunt coyote on sunday Right?

I am looking forward to night coyote hunting with my AR.. I personally would not take a SA over a fine tuned bolt gun for my deer or bear hunting...Not that I have a problem with those who want to. I live 18 miles north of the WV line in the SW corner of PA and WV has always been a SA state. I have never heard of any problems in WV with people using SA for big game..actually most guys I know hunt with a fine bolt gun now days..The 760 Pump used to be as popular as anything here and just south of the border..plus you can shoot 7 deer in WV.

I thought all of you PA boys were hunting down here in MD... judging by the amount of PA vehicles that I see parked when I hunt in any of our public hunting areas. :D

I don't know if it's true but the crow regs are said to be somehow tied in to a migratory bird treaty with Mexico. thus the reason for the three day and hunting season.

Do they wear straw hats and black clothing under their fluorescent orange? If so, it's because they've rendered deer extinct in their former hunting areas. You Pennsy guys know what I'm talking about.

Heck those guys are all over. They arrive in droves. It's like a TV commercial for Cabelas when they start filing out of the trucks.:) New guns, scopes, outfits. They hunted adjacent to our camp a few years ago. I ain't saying there are dumb, but who pushes the worst swamp in the county in dense fog? Who even hunts dense fog anywhere? You can't see anything and if you do you can't positively ID it. I believe they still have guys stuck in there. Around here they are buying huntable property left and right.

No,
Just regular guys looking to take advantage of MD's "kill them all" policy.

Interesting as I know of many in that clan who hunt Maryland. That Kill "em All policy will only last so long. At least that's the way it turned out in PA with the easing of the antlerless hunting regs. They basically gave carte blanche to wiping out the brood stock when the powers to be decided they wanted to change the historic and traditional deer hunting philosophy to a trophy hunting one. Those chickens have come home to roost with less deer, less deer hunters less licenses sold, less money spent by hunters and less hunting in general. Having said all that, at least the taxidermists are making money. :D

Back when the first bonus license was available, they came in with a school bus. There were around 50 of them. They hunted up by the reservoir on Shade Mountain. It was a good deer area. The first year they had 140 hanging on the fence. The next year they shot less and the deer herd there was all but destroyed. They drove from morning to dark and shot everything that moved. The third year they weren't back and someone said they moved to Jacks Mountain to hunt. They just move from spot to spot year after year. I believe the deer in this area are finally starting to come back slowly. Matt

We are talking about these guys, right?

I agree completely - but in my area some of the public land borders these farms - I've had two farmers tell me that if the State passes Sunday hunting they're going to close access to their farms to all hunting. I am not saying it makes sense or I agree with them.

I just don't want to see the farmers alienated because I hunt exclusively on private land and it took me a long time to develop a repore with them. I'll admit its a selfish reason on my part. Bottom line - it's a complicated issue in my area.

Born in Pa. in the early 1940's, I hunted there since maybe age 12. Never ever was there Sunday hunting. Grew up planning the week and the time off around Sunday as a travel time in addition to church. Liked it. Still like it.

As for the semiautomatics...took a guy hog hunting that used one. A simple shot at 130 yards turned into a machine-gun like attack and miss proposition with me getting hit with the cases. A joke in my book. Glad they are banned as they foster idiotic behavior by all too many.

Wish they would ban them from public rifle ranges. They are a source of constant irritation to other shooters.

Sounds like the same argument people who don't like guns at all against why they are not needed now.

Semi's- I can tolerate them, but I don't have to like them enough to own or shoot one. If I were King, all hunting would be done with single shots.:D
