Whats yalls 22 Nosler wildcat ideas?!

.20 with a 40* shoulder????:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I wonder what the powder capacity is and what it compares to?????

Is anyone looking at this in a bolt gun? It looks like case capacity is 34.7gr of H2O. It appears, besides rebating the rim, Nosler has lengthened the case by 0.074", as well as pushed the shoulder forward and gave it a 30 degree lift. I don't know anything about the Wasp but I was thinking they had rebated the Hagar case...

Here is the factory data page complete with a dimension drawing so there isn't any guessing about what size it really is:

Regards.

Hell i was thinking about a 20 tactical, but i may just wait a bit more to have a 20 made off this case... gain an extra bit of speed..

I'm going to neck it up to 6.8 and see if the rebated rim means the relia-bolt will resolve some 6.8 SPC bolt problems (LOL).

A 20 cal does seem awfully tempting.

22 Nosler is a scaled-down Creedmore. The length dimensions, measured from the base (to shoulder, neck, mouth) are all slightly more than 90% scale Creedmore. The diameters (except the rebated rim) all slightly less than 90% scale.

If you take the SAAMI drawing of the Creedmore and select "actual size", then take the 22 Nosler drawing (from their web site) and zoom it 220%, print them both out, and overlay them on a window, they are practically identical in form (except for the rebated rim.)

There are discrepancies on the Nosler web site WRT case capacities. On the main 22 Nosler page, they state:

"The 22 Nosler case holds 34.2gr H2O at overflow, and 31.2gr H2O with a 55gr Ballistic Tip® seated to 2.260” OAL"

But on their "Load Data" under 55-gr Ballistic Tip (seated to OAL 2.260"), they state:

"CASE HOLDS: 34.7 Gr. WATER"

I contacted Nosler last week, using their web form, asking for clarification, but of course I have received no response.

I'm calling Nosler now, will update ...

PS

When I called Nosler, I selected "product information or technical help", was informed I was "first in line" by the recording, and was put on hold for 5 minutes, listening to some pretty guitar music, after which I got a recorded message "Hello, this is so-and-so, I am out of the office until 6 Februrary..."

<sigh>

I am thinking of opening it up to take .375" bullets and use the resulting cartridge in an AR15. Kind of a semi auto 375 winchester. Should be in between the 375 winchester and the 375 supermag. Might be able to use a 375 win reamer and dies to reload the cartridge

While necking up and down will be done instantly, I think there's another option that could be a real game changer:
How about shortening the cartridge and do something in a sub-sonic larger bore? A .338 or .350 with heavy bullets in a suppressed AR15 for instance. Think the 300 BLK is mean?

A 6.5 version on a XP platform would make a nice 300 yd. low recoil deer getter with Noslers 100-120 gr. BT's.....Just a thought.

17 Nosler!! I have a friend wanting a 17-204 until he read about the 22 Nosler and he suddenly decided he couldn't do a 17-204. I'm thinking the only way I'll get him to move forward with a 17 caliber build right now would be to tool up on the new Nosler.

I'd like to see something in 25 caliber. If the 25-45 was claiming to be close to a 250 Savage, this should meet and beat that easily.
I like this idea! Top it off with 100 gr. Speers and take it into the deer woods.

Why 100 gr Speer? I've been considering a 25 Creedmoor for some time but I figured the 115gr Berger was the only production made bullet to choose from.
Tell me more about the Speer bullets.

In my experience, they are a reliable and accurate medium game bullet if not pushed too fast. They are not ideally suited for the .25-'06 or .257 Weatherby, but at more modest velocities they do a fine job on deer-sized game. A wildcat based on the .22 Nosler case would be just about perfect for this bullet IMHO.

I do shoot the 115 gr. Bergers in my .25-'06 and I have nothing but good things to say about it, but I think the smaller case is better served with the lighter 100 gr. bullet. One man's opinion ...
