Shipping a rifle

A j shooter

Shoot often
I went to Fed ex to ship a rifle to a FFL well was I shocked .
190$ from Ga to Texas .i didn't understand the big deal. Well I grabbed my gun and left.
Went to the local gun store 35$ that was insured for 1000$ . Well I learned a lessen.
Never shipped a rifle .

Last time I shipped a rifle, I did the box within a box routine and it was $75 insured shipped from metro area west coast to rural area in the Mid-West. Ouch.

I believe handguns are required to go O/N by the COs. It reduces the time available for their employees to steal or damage shipped handguns.

Both Fed-Ex and UPS require that handguns ship overnight, allegedly to cut down on the chances of theft enroute. I don't know if it's law or not. Long guns can ship ground. I learned both those facts shipping weapons back for warranty work. I've never tried to ship either long guns or handguns by USPS. I've heard that USPS won't ship handguns, but I don't know it for a fact.

Handguns must ship to a FFL if going interstate, unless a manufacturer is returning it to the same person at the same address from which they received it. Then they send it "Adult Signature Required".

I took a class from Bob Rodgers in Idaho, and at the end of the class, he had to send the weapons to an FFL in our states, even though he's an FFL and we were standing right there.

USPS will in fact ship handguns but they must go from an FFL to an FFL, no provision for private individuals

For Fed-Ex that requirement is only if the individual is generating the shipment. When I ship a handgun to S&W with a prepaid label it is 2 day. Same when they return to me.
