NRA Mid-Range (Prone) Tactical Rifle AR

For the New NRA Mid-Range AR match I'm looking for advise/recommendations for a scope...the rules state 12X max power...Thanks John

If you want to fork out the big bones for a higher end scope. Steiner makes a 3-13 tactical and there is always the S&B PMii 3-12

Leupold builds a fixed 12X target scope. That would be a good one in my opinion.

Prolly a good choice for builds that are a one trick pony. But seeing as the class is provisional, folks may want a variable scope choice so the rifle can be put to other uses if rules are changed or if it goes away.

I still haven't gotten a clear answer regarding whether variables with top magnifications above 12 can be used at a setting of 12 or lower.

Anyone have clarification on this?

I'd hate for someone to show up and not get to compete cause their scope goes to 13X.

Hopefully a match director will tape and sign the magnification ring to ensure no tampering with during the match

I think everyone is over complicating this. I have never met a Match director that would turn away a shooter (especially a new shooter) because he had a scope that had to be dialed back. Tell him when you get there and have him ask your scorer to verify it randomly throughout the match. This new class was a means for the NRA to expose new people to NRA high power midrange. People may elect to stay in this class, but I suspect most will move to F-Class or conventional prone. If your club won't let a new shooter shoot with a 14x scope turned back to 12x, then you need new leadership. If a fellow shooter protests the same, then they need to find a new sport or need to adjust their attitude.

I can remember the days when 20rd AR-15 mags were pretty expensive and there were more affordable curved 20rd versions. Despite them being illegal under the NRA rules, never once did anyone protest. We made sure to let those shooters know that for nationals they needed to have 100% legal gear, but we made sure they felt welcome.

Long and short of it is bring what you have, go shoot, and enjoy yourself.

He has no choice if he follows the rules. Just turn it down to 12X and keep it there.

Sights – Telescopic sights, either fixed or variable, not to exceed 12x magnification. Standard metallic, holographic and other tactical sighting systems are also permitted. Laser sighting systems are prohibited.

Let the people shoot. Micromanaging a club match is not the way to get
participation. I have been hearing guys complain because the Tac AR people
are not shooting on F centers. If all the Tac AR guys are in one class .
What difference does it make?
