Lab Radar, Results are in!

On every picture LabRadar is BEHIND the muzzle (barrel extends about 10-12'' past radar) but on mine I can only get a reading if the radar is placed about the same distance past the muzzle... Does anybody have any ideas why is that happening? TNX.
Ideally, it should be placed even with the muzzle or slightly behind (with no brake). Placing it further back may not trigger the unit when a shot is fired while using the internal trigger as the source. If placed a foot toward the breech, my unit will not reliably trigger....unless it is in the Doppler trigger mode. The shooters you see with the unit placed that far aft are likely in Doppler trigger mode. I like my unit...Labradar, that is;)... about an inch aft and 6-12 inches to the side and I use 'Internal trigger mode'. If that is not possible, I will put it further back and place in Doppler mode.

@rardoin that may be why mine hasn't worked well in acoustic mode... the ground slopes away from the firing line fairly steeply, and the firing line itself is fairly shallow, so I literally *can't* put the unit that far forward.

What caliber and muzzle device are you using?

I used mine indoors the other night testing 22lr for consistency, that was cool and the results were eye opening. Took a couple try's to get the setup figured out but after that, no issues, read and tracked every time.

Do that with your optical unit..

Mine did not want to record 22LR shots with sound trigger. Did you use doppler trigger?

Yes.

It took a few try's to figure out what worked indoors. I ended up setting the trigger to 12" and set the radar just behind the plane of the muzzle. I was in the prone position and on the floor.

I think with the sound sensor you would need the external mic.

The numbers I got were right around 1070-1080 depending on ammo so the machine is measuring correctly on Doppler mode.

When doing this, I have found you need a good distance. You need to set the power low. Also avoid any lanes next to walls. This seems to be helpful.

Has anyone tested the LabRadar in a situation where you have to shoot through a "window" in a wall about 15' in front of the bench? One range I shoot at built a wall of old RR cross ties to prevent stray rounds from leaving the range. You have to shoot through a window about 2' high and 5' wide.

My range has a building with windows that you shoot through. Mostly used by folks in the winter but I have used it in the summer when I reload at the range. I put the LabRadar on the side and it works fine. However, I am usually only about 6” from the opening since the bench is pushed right up to the window opening which is around 2’ tall. I think though the further back you are i.e. 15’ from the window, the more problems you are going to potentially have since it will cut off the top and bottom part of the radar lobe which I understand is taller than wide.
