CZ455 Varmint Precision Trainer

Hey all,

Cheers for the comments. Ive been thinking and I may just keep the 1416DHB I already have to throw a Pro Varmint on that instead of selling it to get the VPT. Sounds like the money I'd spend on the VPT would be alot and I already have an accurate 22lr.

Cheera for your help. Feel free to use this thread to talk more about the CZ.

Be aware that a pro varmint that is inletted for an Anschutz 64 will not be a drop in fit for a current 1416D HB. The rear tang is nearly 1/2" too short so that needs to be milled. Inletting work for the bolt release and trigger also needs to be milled. The barrel channel is way too thin and that will need to be opened up by a good amount.

DJ,

Thats fine. I have access to my fathers Mill to sort it all out. I am going to get a ball cutter to suit the barrel channel.

I asked about bedding on RFC, do you think just glass bedding is fine or go pillars aswell?

djdilliodon as too your post about barreling CZ rifles, I heard a lot about your great work both on RFC & CGN and your the guy I need to talk to, without hijacking Quickoz thread/post.

by email, PM or posted on here. if I'm looking at building a custom CZ rifle for Target/ Benchrest shooting which is a better action to work with CZ452/453/455? or skip this and go Anschutz? I'm trying to get Sub MOA like .3's @ 50yards if I do my part.

I have a few CZ rifles already so I don't have to buy extra magazines and gear then.

I have access locally to a 50 yd indoor range. This rifle is fairly close in configuration to my F-TR rifles and I think it would be a good way to practice over the winter months. Initially, I'm not so concerned with trying to take precision to the next level (i.e. buying a replacement barrel) until I first determine how it shoots in the "stock" configuration. I would probably get the Yo Dave trigger upgrade to better match the pull on my F-TR rifles, but wait to see whether a barrel upgrade was warranted.

My first question to those who have one one of these rifles is about scope rings. I have a 5.5-22x50 NF NXS scope currently not in use that should be comparable at 50 yd to the 12-42 scopes I use in competition. Does anyone have suggestions for a decent set of rings that will fit the 11 mm dovetail AND accommodate a 30 mm scope tube with a 50 mm objective lens?

The second question is in regard to the 24" (tapered) barrel vs 20.5" straight contour. Any thoughts or preferences? Thanks in advance for your input.

I have both the Leupold 11mm Rings which are nice. But I also bought a 25MOA DiP extended 11mm rail where it allows me to use weaver/picatinny tactical mounts. The 25MOA will allow you to shoot targets in the 200yrd mark. Your scope is great use it.

I have a SWFA SS 16x, Sightron SII BigSky 24x or a Leupold 6-18x40 target scope which is going onto my rifle. Ring height Leupold 11mm rings in high. if you get the DIP rail use 30mm tac rings.
I bought Vortex 30mm tact rings in Medium used with the DIP rail. I also have a tactical bolt handle coming which will work with this set up.

I have a YoDave's kit installed which my trigger is now a hair trigger bump tested and passed. This trigger is in the oz.

Out of the cz actions none are better than the other when going with a match barrel. I prefer using the 455 action as it's cheaper to do and accuracy will be no better or worse. An Anschutz 64 can be utilized but accuracy will be very similar to the cz's (can't really guarantee it will do better) but you get better fit and finish, a better trigger, smoother bolt, and better lock time (more benificial for the off hand shooters). This will all come at a higher price of around $500-$750 plus depending on how you configure the Annie. I like to convert the Annie 64's to use cz magazines as they feed better and the mags are half the price. I like using benchmark barrels in 2 and 3 groove and do them permanently attached. First started with a Lilja match chamber, then used an EPS match, and now I'm using a custom straight wall chamber with no taper. No real difference from the Lilja to EPS really but we shall see what this one does. Accuracy from builds like this will do better than .3's. All properly done will do .2's or better.
