CZ455 Super Match 22LR - trainer and SB competition

Hi everyone

looking to hear about experiences and and gather advice about the CZ455 Super Match .22LR and whether it will suit as a Trainer and small bore competition rifle.

I’m considering it as trainer for center fire shooting, kids trainer and small bore competition gun (not trying to win Olympic SB or anything but some local SB and rimfire comps could be fun).

I know CZ are a quality brand but advice from anyone who had used one and the accuracy to expect with good ammunition would be immensely appreciated.

thanks in advance

I can't imagine what small bore competition in the USA they would be good for. Figure out what competition you intend to shoot attend a match and see what rifle is winning, buy the same or some thing close.

For what it is worth, I shoot Palma and SB prone. The SB prone is an excellent trainer for Palma because all the basics and wind reading are essential to success in both but SB prone is cheaper ammunition wise and you fire a lot more shots in a match. At some point one reaches a skill level where it is realized the rifle/sights/ammunition combination is not performing at the level the shooter is capable of. So the question is; do you buy a rifle/sight combination that is capable of performing at a higher level and perhaps pay more initially OR do you buy a rifle/sight combination that is initially less expensive but will eventually have to be replaced OR because of poor performance be discouraging to further development? My recommendation is to buy a well cared for Anschutz 54 or similar Walther both with target sights. Then buy standard velocity ammunition that shoots well in the rifle and when it is obvious you are capable of exceeding the performance of that then upgrade to a higher quality. The above advice was given to me many years ago and it is still applicable today.

For what type of training and competition?
If you are talking about PRS/NRL stuff, I cant really comment as I have no experience there.
If you are thinking about Smallbore F class, it would be ok to get started/just participate but it will probably not be competitive so you would be better served by a different rifle.
If you have a kid that you want to introduce to competitive shooting, save your money and find a Junior program near you to get them started. Most Junior programs have equipment to get kids started and if they pursue the sport you will need a different rifle sooner than later.
