CZ455 or 22 AR15 upper for Precision Practice

I want to get a precision 22 for cheaper & more convenient centerfire practice. For a while I was thinking about getting a Compass Lake Engineering 22 upper & that it would really give me the same muscle memory, etc. when shooting my AR at 600 yards. I do not do any service rifle type of competition, just F class stuff. BTW, I would plan to put a suppressor on, not that I think that makes a difference one way or another.

At the same time, I really shoot my bolt guns more than my AR, so with that being the case, would I be better off w/ a CZ455? What kind of work would the CZ require before it shoots well? I'm thinking bedding the stock and a trigger upgrade. In the end, I think that I would spend about $900 on either the CZ455 or CLE upper.

I probably am overthinking this, and either one will provide me with the practice opportunity that I am after, but wanted to seek out some opinions.

HI, cant tell you what would best fit your needs. I have a CZ 455 sporter weight barrel rifle. It will shoot 3/4 20 shot groups at 50 yards all day long with ammo it likes. However it like the more expensive ammo, like rws 50 and midas. All I did was to re-torque the barrel screws and change the trigger spring. I have handled some ar 22's rifles built as a 22 and some feel good and much cheaper than the Compass upper. I have a some past experience with Compass Lake folks that was very good, but never purchased a complete rifle from them. Just a thought for 900.00 you might want to look for a used Annie. You could also look for a used 10/22 and build around it, cheap and accurate and mine does not require high dollar 22 ammo.

My advice is to get both. A little shopping will likely turn up a well tricked out S&W M&P15-22 for your AR "work" and a CZ455 Tacticool model for your bolt gun training all within your $900 budget. I have both and they are mucho fun.

What is a 'Annie'? I have a 10/22. How much would I have to put into it to get it to shoot. I'm guessing that it would need at least a barrel, stock and trigger. I got a CZ right there money wise, don't I? I have purchased a precision AR from CLE and could not have been happier with it's performance.

I cannot believe that I can get a trick out M&P to run anywhere close to a CLE. How much would one cost that would shoot as good as a CZ or CLE?

You'll find a nice M&P for around $400(MSRP on the MOE model is $499), maybe less if you shop hard, and the CZ Tacticool is usually around $500.
My M&P15-22 is a really good shooter and functions perfectly. Same for my CZ. I also run them both suppressed.
