Need a new project, seeking input

My last two builds have been single shot on a BAT B and Kelbly Bigbore. I am in the mood for a repeater action. I would like to give a 3LUG action a try.

I know BAT made a limited run of 3lug repeater actions a long time ago. The only other one I am aware of is the GAP Tempest.

Just looking for some input on this "PROBLEM" I have.

Nothing against them but I'm not looking for information on a savage or Remington.

Thanks
Nick

NickB1075,

I can't figure why you want something made by Savage or Remington in a 3-lug action when there are better made products on the market already and there is nothing from either of those two you mention.

JP rifles = https://www.jprifles.com/1.2.6_MOR10.php

Fierce Arms = http://www.fiercearms.com/products/rifle-models/edge

Sako A7 = http://www.berettasupport.com/product/2016RifleProductGuide.pdf

Sako TRG = http://www.sako.fi/rifles/sako-trg

There's a start for you. Use a good search engine to find a couple more.

Regards.

I am aware savage or Remington does not produce a 3 lug. My point was that I didn't want to hear how "Great" Remington or savage is and that is all I would need. It seems to me the past few threads I have read about action choice without fail someone mentions savage or Remington. I was just trying to say I was looking to go a little higher end. I will be more specific next time.
I appreciate your input I will research a few you mentioned. I am really looking toward the custom actions.

Thanks
Nick

NickB1075,

It wasn't your fault but mine, reading too fast and looking for answers before complete comprehension. Sorry...

After letting my memory reboot a little:

Badger Ordnance M2013 is a 3-lug action magazine fed. It is stout to say the least:

The M2013 combines precision machining, improved extraction, an lighter bolt lift, and a breeching ring lock up to a 6 on 3 lug bolt pattern.

I have built well over two dozen rifles on these actions and have found them to be superbly accurate when properly mated to a great barrel. Marty produces a never fail action for heavy use.

Curtis Customs is in the process of finishing up their new 3-lug action, the Vector, if they can finally solve all the problems they have been confronted with during production. It looks similar to the Defiance actions.

Personally, the Tempest is a fine action as is the M2013 but check into the Curtis if you want to have another choice.

Regards.

Kurz,

Thanks for the sugestions. Those are exactly the type I was looking for. Now the research begins.

I really like the looks of both of those actions. What were to problems with Curtis? And does anybody that you know of or suggest stock these?

Thanks
Nick

What were to problems with Curtis?

I think it's just the learning curve on how to produce something in larger than 'one of' quantities. You can contact Chase Curtis through their website or Joel Russo (stockmaker), his partner.

As to stocks, both McMillan and Manners makes several stock types for everything that comes out of GAP including the Tempest. I'm sure that Joel and Chase have sent samples to both stockmakers as well although I'm not aware of any movement towards production just yet. It's not a difficult design to finalize since it's basically a round body 700 foot print action. From their description:

"Precision 3 lug bolt action with a 60* bolt throw and standard Remington 700 footprint"

Usually the only changes that have to occur are in the bolt handle location and angle.

Regards.

Kurz, Thanks for the information. they are definitely in the mix. I will give them a call and talk with them. I really like that m2013 too.

keep your eyes open for a BAT three lug,,,or a Witcita ,,,Roger

witcita arms is still making actions,,http://www.wichitaarms.com
Expiper, I would love to find a BAT 3 lug repeater but I spoke with I think Tom at BAT a while back and he said they only made around 25 and that was over 10 years ago. I was hopeful that when they came out with the tube gun action a standard action would follow shortly but that never happened.
I will have a look at the Wichita action.

Thanks
Nick
