ITAR Registration -- Plan on Paying your Gunsmith more...

The way I read it, if there is no intent to sell ammo, the tax wouldn't be levied but you still need to register if you reload. That's just as bad as the tax in my opinion!

What brings you to that conclusion?

As i read it, the entirety of the action applies only to those in business.

38 years ago! Bear with me ,I had a physics class in that course the one thing that stuck out in my mind the most was a story the professor told.It was about the time he was in college, the class he had was some type of study hall with about 30 in the class. They were told they could do anything they want, sleep, play games ,etc. What they didn't know was they themselves were being studied .All the windows were broken out,all the furniture was broken and fist fights were a daily event.Eventually after months of this behavior the students began to study! After studying our society for ten years in all it's corruption I have to wonder is this the worst? But using simple math and logistics it tells me it's only the tip of the ice berg !Does complete chaos have to rule for a long period of time before we come to our senses ? If it cannot be avoided WHY ?

They're both Democrat shills........just block them and be done with it. I don't know why they are on this forum in the first place......other than to try to influence others to think in the same stupid communistic way.

I did that months ago. Why should I let CNN comment on a forum? And by "ignoring" I was able to, in essence, shut up Crazy Uncle Jim who ruins Thanksgiving every year, in a manner of speaking. So if a tree falls in the woods and no one cares to listen, maybe the tree will go away?

Nice easy break down. If you do any kind of machine work including threading a barrel you are now subject to the ITAR rules and fee. I have put all my spare money and time the last 5 years into building my gun business now I am going to have to think about shutting down because of some president that believes he is a king? Call your Senator's and let's get this overturned. If I do stay in business the cost will be passed on to my customers and there is no way around it.

The sad and frightening fact is, I think, if things continue on this course coming out of Washington we will have to stand and say " No More..." and God help us, be willing to back up what we say.

Kinda like the first American Revolution.

I weep to think of how wrong things have gotten in two generations, May God bless us and open their eyes to the truth.

Amen!

and very sad part and most depressing part of all this,,, who decides how much or by what amount to raise the fee? This year $ 2,250, next $ 3, 250.... in five years $ 10-20-30-50,000... and then no more Smiths, not even the established ones. Do forget that 50 firearm per year exemption can be lower at any time with a stroke of a pen, just watch, it will happen before he's out of office!

171 days, 18 hours and 20 minutes left for the Exalted Ruler to eradicate freedoms we and our descendants fought to save for over 240 years.....wiped out in 8 simply because the of the blue parties selfish #1 goal is to win erections at any cost through media propoganda.

I emailed both of my Senators this morning and have reached out to a few other places to try get the word out. This needs to be stopped but voices need to be heard to stop it.

This is one of my greatest concearns. We have seen this pattern here in California. A regulation is passed with some kind of modest fee (perhaps $100/year). Then the fee is basically ramped up, though administrative fiat, until it becomes punitive. $2250.00 is already significant. If the DDTC bureaucrats decide to make that $20,000 they, presumably could do so... unless this is stopped by the courts.

got on the horn this morning and talked with the atf branch in minnesota. long story short if you are working on a firearm you are RE-MANUFACTURUNG a firearm part or enhancing capabilities of said firearm. atf is the initial point of contact\ investigation while the state department is the actual follow through organization . this is what i am told this mornin over the phone not in writing.

also the fee for one year is 2750 with a discount for two years paid up fornt of 2250 per year.

state department and ddtc are the problem right now. also a 07 ffl is not required for general gunsmiths because the atf version of manufacturing is different from itar\ddt\statedepartment

Thanks Larry

Each Governmental Department and agency within that department can and will have its own definititions:
ie:
State Department : DDTC/ITAR
Justice Department: BATF
Treasury Department: TTB

They all are overseen by the Executive Branch and its Appointees, the Senate and Congress, and the US Courts District, Appeals, and Supreme Court.

I know but someone will make thousands of barrels for a savage . But small gun shops will stop . And home builders will do also.
The real loss will end up being competitive shooting sport . Larry

Talked to my gunsmith this morning. He's closing up. He only did it part time and can't justify the extra cost. Sad, cause he was good, built some National Record guns. Sad thing is Liberals are blind to what's happening right in front of their face and the rest of us suffer for their stupidity.

when did this go into action? i see 7/22/16. does that mean now ,yesterday , next week , next year? if you aare not registered with ddtc does all business stop untill you pay the privilidge tax to work on others guns ?
I don't know if I'm going to keep fighting this anymore. I've only been in business for a couple of years and it seems they keep trying to make me a felon out of me just for trying to make a living.

I was severely injured in the HVAC field a few years ago........I'll never be able to do that kind of work again nor can I find a job that would be comparable to it. So I went into business trying to make money from a hobby that I enjoyed and to stay off the government dole and actually PRODUCE something instead of sucking the on government tit. Building prefit rifle barrels.....which I seem to be pretty good at from all the reviews.

Between all the fed/state government red tape, FFL laws, and the IRS breathing down your neck, I spend as much time dealing with them as I do working.....and they get all the profits to redistribute to the tit suckers.....It seems the Democrats are going to force me to suck the government tit whether I want to or not!!! You have to be a non licensed lawyer just to understand what all of this means. Part time lawyer, part time barrel maker.

Y'all need to ask for a raise so you can send it to the government, who will then send it to me when I start setting on my butt!!!!:rolleyes::cool:

JK!!

I've been working since I was 12 and have no intentions of becoming a government piglet! Never thought I'd see the days this country would become socialist/communist.....
Just got around to reading this thread. Your post reminds me of a man from a nearby town that had a store that he sold and serviced vacuum cleaners at. This man had no legs. Despite that tremendous handicap he he ran that store and services vacuum cleaners in his wheel chair. I have despised laziness my entire life, but let me say that after encountering this fellow in his store, I have less than zero respect for most people living off the public dole. These government regulations are BS. It is a problem even at the local level. My local gunsmith cannot advertise his business unless he installs a separate septic system, builds a handicapped bathroom in his shop, etc.

I'm kind of scratching my head wondering how they will enforce this for individuals doing work for themselves or a friend. Dealers & businesses I can see.

After reading the entire thread and (what appears to me to be) applicable areas of the DDTC including the above linked document I don't see how these regulations can be construed to include items NOT to be exported. I think that attempts to enforce them on recreational/sporting arms and such that are sold for domestic use would be shot down on legality issues although the financial burden to the plaintiff would be extreme.

I will post a response (assuming I get one) from the DDTC Response Team concerning the application of this rule set to articles intended for recreational/sporting use.
