Homemade cerakote ovens?!

Heck you can use a kitchen oven if you don't mind the aroma. All you need is 300º for an hour. Scavenge a throw-away oven for burner/electric element and thermostat and find a metal container long enough to fit a rifle in.

I have never cerakoted but have experience with KG guncoat. I built a wood box and lined it with sheet metal. KG guncoat recommends using moving air at 300degrees to cure the finish. I used a heat gun to provide the air and heat, I installed a BBQ thermometer in the lid and cut a hole for the barrel of the heat gun. From what I read about cerakote moving air is not needed, so an oven should work. I never could find one big enough to put a barreled action in

I made my own...

In that oven I used 1" thick foil sided insulation board (foil side facing in) then put 5/8" fire board on top. Tiled the bottom and sides so the burner wouldn't burn the paper is all.
The only place I didn't use insulation board was the door due to the thickness which wouldn't allow me to work the lock. You can easily put your hand on the door while its at 250 degrees all day long.
Here's a copy of the parts used in the PID controller and pic of the foil board.

I made a similar one as cigarcop, I used a heat gun and made some vents like found on smokers for temp control. Once i figured out were to set everything it is very stable and easy to maintain temperature. I used foil covered insulation, and foil tape. On the bottom I made a heat/air diffuser to help maintain a more even heat throughout the oven.

PLEASE, never, ever bake off any gun coating in the oven that you cook food in. Also NEVER store cerakote or any other like product in your refrigerator. All of these contain isocyanides. Yes a form of cyanide. Not really known to be good for your health.
