Just finished this up. Its a Bat ct action, jewell trigger, 1.450" Lilja, with a T5 brake. Basically its a 375 CT improved necked down to .338. 300 grain Berger and 140 grains of 50 BMG. The customer it sending a couple rounds for me to "function test". I am a little intimidated

I estimate the weight to be about 15# with a 22-23" barrel. With that weight, length, and that brake, I suspect it will be quite pleasant to shoot (double plugged).

So, Alex built this work of art for me and I'm incredibly grateful for it! He's probably the only smith I talked to who was not only willing to build it, but actually seemed excited about the project. The idea for this project came up about a 18 months ago when I got my hands on a few 375 CT cases. I was joking with a friend and said that I wanted to make a 375 BR case out of a shortened CT and run it on a pistol as a big brother to my 6mm BR pistol. The more I thought about it the more I liked the idea. It eventually evolved in to running a full length 338/408 improved in a 20" barrel. The goal was to match 338 Edge ballistics (300gr bullet at 2850fps +)in a specialty pistol for shooting out past 2000 yards.

While waiting for the action and stock to get finished I had a rifle made out of parts I picked up around the web to start getting a feel for the cartridge. This also gave me the chance to form some brass without taking away for the already limited barrel life of the pistol. The rifle is built on a Lawton action and a McRee chassis and just doesn't have the "wow" factor that the wood stock on the pistol does. The pistol stock was made by Joel Russo out of Bubinga and was finished by Alex. The wood was chosen for it's figure and it's density. Weight was not an issue with this build and honestly, a few extra ounces is welcome on this project! The stock and action were both finished up much quicker than I expected but the barrel blank took long enough to make up for it!

Now I just need Alex to hurry up and test fire it so I know whether or not this was a spectacular boondoggle or a worth while project! If nobody hears from him in the next couple of days, we can probably assume that he suffered temporary amnesia shooting it. Not from the recoil but from the muzzle blast and concussion of the brake! All I need now is to decide what scope to throw on there. I have a couple to choose from but I need to find something that "looks" right on there.

Actually it was so u-eventful I didnt even bother posting a video. That muzzle brake is extremely effective. You literally can free-recoil this pistol. I was amazed.

I had the stock in my hands a little less than 3 months after I ordered it. I was pretty impressed with the turnaround on it.

I got the NF NXS 5.5-22 mounted on there and hope to get out next weekend to test fire it and get it zeroed. I'll get some video while I'm out to compare the recoil from this to the smaller caliber bolt action pistols in 6 BR, 284 and 338//375 Ruger. I'll get some more pictures of the gun as well. It really did turn out better than I could have hoped for. Alex did a phenomenal job all around on this!

I have the T4 brake on my 338/408 rifle and it works beautifully. That's what prompted me to try the T5 on the pistol. I've been running Muscle brakes on most of my guns but I think I'll start switching over to the Terminators from here on out.

Just thought I'd post up a few more pics of the gun. Alex did an amazing job on this project!





The escutcheons are a beautiful touch that I didn't know about until I got the gun. I'm loading up ammo today and hope to get out next week to start testing. I'm not sure I'll keep the NXS on there, I just wanted to get some pics with a scope mounted. I'm not terribly happy with the NF scopes on a SP because they have such a picky eye box. It does look good proportionally though.
