.338 Lapua Magnum... Can it be Improved?

I'm curious if the .338 Lapua Magnum is already in an improved form or can it be improved some? I'm not certain of it's exact dimensions but I wonder what sort of performance an Improved Version of this cartridge would have 42inch barrel like Dan Lilja' .338-416rigby which is basically the same cartridge he claims 3200plus fps with a 300 grain bullet from this combination. I'm curious if 3300-3350 wouldn't be possible with an improved case design and perhaps better case life? Usually 50-100 Fps is rather possible gain in velocity from an improved cartridge so I figure that this cartridge should be no different and yield similar results as all Improved cartridges do over their parent cartridge? Anyone have real information? right now all I have is a hypothetical...

Yeah, I know, I like the look of the tactical rifles but I don't really plan on using that way. It is merely an asthetic thing more than a benchrest thing. Plus it is handy to be able to shoot from the ground saves money on rests, benches and so on. Even if I only shoot targets...

I like the sound of the bigger 338 baer...

Okay so he was seeing 3200plus from a 40inch barrel in .338-416Rigby I need to improve this cartridge and see what a 42 incher will yeild...
