12 twist PPC

I got a bbl that was supposed to be 14 but turned out to be 12,,would you use a 12 twist with a PPC chamber,,move up to a Dasher or 6x47L or 243 or send it back,,

will the 12 still give top accuracy with 68 Ultras ??

I would shoot it in a heart beat.

I agree with Mr. Shaw.
Personally I wouldn't be afraid of it at all. And especially if you're going to be shooting 200 And yes it will stabilize the 68's just fine. But that's me.

If you're not going to be confident with it then return or sell it. You have to be confident in your equipment to compete. Just my 2 cents worth. What does your gunsmith say? WD

If I get a new ppc barrel it would be a 12 twist so I have the option to shoot the 80 Berger, 75 V-max.
I had a 12 twist once and I hit Ole Chuckie at 1,000 yards with the PPC shooting 87 V-max. If I tried that
again I would use a lighter 80 gr bullet.
My goal was to hit Chuckie at 1,000 yd with a PPC and the 12 twist made it happen.

think I will do a 12 twist Dasher to shoot the 80 Berger at 300 yard egg shoots,,and get the 14 twist for the PPC later on,,I am really into 300-600 yard shooting more anyway but want to try the short game sometime,,

I have 8 twist 6BR and 8 twist 6 BRDX and 8 twist 243 for 600+ shooting already,

12tw is no problem. Seems to recoil a tad more but shoots just as well. I have a few for bullet testing and they work fine. Sometimes the old conventional wisdom dont hold up i have some 15's as well!

I have a Benchmark, 12 twist, 3 groove, 6ppc, 26", it's a show off at the range, 63 Bergers to 80, those heavier bullets really shine at 200yards

Is it just stamped 12 tw.....or did you verify it at 12? Some button rifle barrels can vary as to their true twist.
Also, what's the intended use? BR matches, varmints?
For varmints yes, for SR BR, IMHO the added torque will be hard to overcome when it comes down to shooting really small.

If everyone went to 1:12" twist barrels for the 68ish Gr. bullets made on .825" long jackets (especially BT varieties),
the HUMMER to BUMMER ratio would go WAY up - that is, more hummers and fewer bummer 6ppc chambered barrels
from your favorite barrel maker.;) RG

ok guys gonna chamber the Krieger HV 12 twist .237/.243 in 6PPC and fit it to the Farley action glued in the Terry Leonard stock,,

surely something from Barts or BIBs will do the trick,,

Good choice. Just find the longest and pointy-est 68gr bullets you can and have fun.

Mine seems to be working. Those are 3 shot groups at 200 yards with four different loads. No long and pointy bullets. Just my 68 boattails.

Eric,

That was 133 and testing groups from 28.5 to 29.6 of it. I've been shooting a good bit of LT32 and it's been shooting as well around 28.2 to 28.5.
