questions on gempro scales

getting ready to purchase a gempro scale . i've been reading up on them . the only complaint I've seen that I question is trickling up to the charge you want . a couple of the reviews I read say that it doesn't catch up to the correct weight and when it does it is over weight . is there a trick to trickling up . I was thinking of getting the gempro 300 only because of the blue back light . I can see it better then the orange any help on this would be appreciated . thanks in advance . rich .

.......is there a trick to trickling up . .

Not really, but you can solve the problem by either a) taking the pan with the trickled load off the scale, then put it back on and it should read accurately or b) very lightly press the pan then release and the scale should read correct weight.

The other thing you'll find is that as you get used to a powder you can easily count the number of kernels remaining to hit your desired charge. You get to know what each kernel of powder weighs depending on the powder type. For example, if I'm 0.16g short of my target weight, that would be 4 kernels of H1000 or 6-7 kernels of Varget. I won't even bother to wait for the final weight to display once I got a good initial reading and clearly saw how many kernels dropped in.

The powders I work with have a very consistent kernel weight...I also will trickle by kernel number once I get within a few kernels of the target weight. IE- H100V kernels are almost all .02gr/kernel. I throw a charge of 42.5gr from my thrower with a target of 42.8. I run the Dandy and get to 42.72 as a settled weight. I won't hesitate to trickle 4 kernels and call it good rather than waiting on the scale...which may or may not be on the maek unless I pull the pan and re set in on the scale. I now have a Sartorius and I can now trickle right up to the mark with very little settling time and no error but at a price of about 9X the Gempro 250.

thanks for all the information guys . well I bought gempro 300 . I got it because I think i'll be able to read the scale better . stay tuned and i'll let know how it works . and ray the man thanks for the info on the a&d fx scale . its a little too rich for my pocket book though . thanks agin guys . rich

FWIW I use a GemPro 250 and have had excellent results. Along with proper brass prep etc. consistent single digit SDs are very doable. I "throw" to very close to my target charge and use tweezers to adjust individual kernels (grains) until that target weight is hit, a little slow at first but very accurate.

I touch the pan with a plastic spoon then remove after trickling then it settles to the new weight. As said above you will learn what powder kernals weigh and be able to adjust up or down.

mattri and broke thanks for the info . I like the plastic spoon idea broke . thanks again guys . rich .

Fluorescent lights have a transformer that have a huge magnetic field that will cause electric scales to drift. A power conditioner will help reduce problems, such as a Furman power conditioner. Or you can switch to an LED shop light, I have one above my bench and love it.

hi boxcar and mr 45 . that's what I needed to know . off to lowes to get a led light . thanks again guys . rich .
