Can someone verify this is what cobalt cerakote looks like?

Ok, so I just got a barreled action back from the cerakote shop, a new shop I wanted to try out. The Cerakote is H112Q which is cobalt. For you guys that have this color or have sprayed this particular color does this look correct to you? I'm thinking there blast media is way to course and this is why it looks like it does. Not sure the owner is going to be happy with this......

Looks pretty course to me too. I'm not a fan of the Cerakote look normally, but I like that the best of the bunch and would be happy with the functionality as well as the look.
 
I'm sitting here with the cerakote cobalt H-112 which I just did yesterday, it's darker than your picture. It appears that the blasting job was done with garnet as it should be, but it was done at a higher pressure than it should have. It is not a bad look, but the vendor probably shouldn't be blasting at as high a pressure. It's suppose to be abraded before application, but not deep enough to do that to the finish. Although adhesion issues shouldn't be a problem.
 
Thanks guys for the nice comments on it. After I got it all put together I did take a better liking to it. I'm still not sure what the owner will think, but my hope is he likes it too.

Jwink, thanks for your first hand insight on it. I believe your evaluation of it is spot on.
 
Has absolutely nothing to do with blasting media, that's how Cobalt looks. For whatever reason I've had a lot of customers wanting that color on there guns, everything from AR's to shotguns. Cobalt works very well on older gun to hide imperfections in the metal. The barreled action in the pic looks spot on to me!

Gutsy move, sending a Defiance to a new, untested shop.

I might've started with a worn Remington or Savage, maybe something with some freckling already where you had nothing to lose.

Looks like it turned out OK, but not sure I would've been brave enough to try that. :oops:
