Annealer's any reviews

Very nice. One question...Has your friend given any consideration as to how much heat the rubber o rings will be subject too? Seems like they would crack after a while. However, it's just a simple o ring that can probably be purchased at Lowe's. The price range is certainly palatable for a shooter like myself that would like an annealing machine but, don't care to pay the price of the established models because my budget won' allow it. My Jeep comes first! LOL. Regardless, it appears he has built a nice looking unit.

Good question kid; I'm sure that's a consideration, email Mike and ask him, he'll make you feel like a friend too.

nmkid;
I just talked with Mike and the info about the O-rings is as follows: they are Silicon rings and good to 600 degrees. Really shouldn't be much of a consideration if the flame/torch is adjusted right.

Sounds good to me. Darn it! Gonna have to think about this!!

I don't know exactly how to respond to the comments or even if I should. This annealer is exactly what I needed to work my brass. It's a solid unit and has repeatable controller settings, not sure what Joe was alluding to because the "crude" knob speed controller is calibrated. I've checked the setting on mine and while running the speed is almost exact according to my stopwatch. Set it on a number on the dial and if you switch from and back to the setting the speed is repeatable, the same. The torch that Joe pictures in his post will work with this unit as well. BTW, a torch head doesn't come with the unit, I supplied my own.
This unit wasn't designed to compete with a Bench Source, hence the price point. Nothing wrong with a Bench Source, but I'm very happy with this unit and even happier with the $200 I saved.

I think you made a good buy and we appreciate you sharing the information. Annealing is a hot topic at all times on these forums. More companies are entering the market which is good for consumers some DYI projects cost less than $30. There's a solution for just about everyone.

Joe's feedback in a conversation we had on the "Giraud/Skip" style annealers put me on to a Benchsource. It hurt paying that much for one solution in my reloading process, but I only have to cry one time.

Everyone's requirements are different. Joe sets a high standard for his equipment as a competition shooter as do I. I didn't anneal before competing and my groups were more than small enough...then. Now they are improving even more yet I'm well past a diminishing return.

If this unit was out a few months ago I would have strongly considered it.

Regards,
~Jimmy

Thanks Jimmy; excellent comments, well thought out and presented. As I stated earlier, I'm just getting into long distance shooting, and really only because I saw the opportunity to get into the sport on an "economical level". That and the fact my grandson has an interest. Did I say economics plays a huge role in my planning. I'm retired and Social Security doesn't go very far so every time I can save, I try to find good equipment, ect. Bought a 6.5 Creedmoor RPR and a Vortex scope, dies, ect. The Annealer is a very important piece of equipment and I was saving to purchase one when the MRB Annealer became available. Helped that I knew the developer and got one right away. I would have held out, saved longer and bought a Bench Source, but saving $200 up front allowed me to invest in Neck Turning gear and some extra reloading components.
When I win the Lottery (tonight) I'll be upgrading my rifle to something like a Tubbs 2000.

With that as a goal, what are you shooting now?

Don't be fooled by Internet hype; a T2k is nice hardware (I had one for a few years, used it to get started in NRA long-range) but at their current (used) price-point you can do better for less $$.

Unless you just have to shoot from a magazine, maybe.

I just got a RPR 6.5CM, and I've decided to stick with it for now (didn't win the Lottery tonight). I figure it's a good place to start and it certainly was at the right price point.

I had a conversation with the designer of the MRB Annealer and he confirmed my understanding about the warranty on the machine. It's like the warranty I have on my Dillon XL650. It doesn't work, send it back for repair. Give him a buzz @ mike@mikesreloadingbench.com and learn all about the Annealer and the warranty.
BTW, still no Tempilaq, but I'm going to experiment with some old brass to get a better feel of the process.

I've had some questions about the machine, i.e. it's rollers more specifically. Here's a page out of the manual that will explain the physical properties better than me trying to explain what's what.

Tempilaq will be here Tuesday or Wednesday. I've done several "dry" runs with 300 Blackout(with the adapter installed), 6.5 Creedmoor, 223, 44/40 and some 357 just to see if it would work. Proud to say, they ALL worked and I have confidence that when the Tempilaq arrives setting the flame and the time will be pretty easy.

I wonder if there will be enough demand for low-cost, automatic annealers that they could go into something approaching "mass production"? If so, I could see the cost dropping to somewhere in the $100-$150 range. The propane models I've seen on YouTube fall into two designs: 1) the outside roller, that rotates the case on the outside of a wheel and 2) the inside roller, where the case runs on the inside of a drum with a slot in it. Of these two, it looks like the inside roller is slightly simpler but wastes a bit of propane between cases, while the outside rollers are slightly more complex but more efficient.

I remember when chronographs were so expensive that only rich folks or clubs would own them. Today, just about any reloader can afford some chronograph. In a short time it could be the same with annealers.

Not in production but it is a great idea, and superbly made.
This one looks like a production model.
I can't help but believe that an induction annealer which includes a water bath and circulation pump to keep the induction coil from melting would be a more expensive solution than a box with a small motor and a couple of rollers.

It most likely is more expensive but I just didn't want to mess with an open flame and wanted a precise setting. I can set mine (2nd video above) to 10 ms.
