mausingfield action?

99%+ of NA hunters and shooters will never even SEE a live elephant or Cape Buffalo in the wild, let alone be faced with a charge by one.

Agree and even at that, a double rifle or drilling is generally preferred for those that can make a pizza out of you.

According to the above posts you can't feed single rounds from the top... They have to be placed into the mag first, then pushed with the standard bolt thrust...

I didn't quite say that, especially about the Mausingfield....

However, some CRF actions...

But the general idea is to have it feed from the mag only. I'm sure there are exceptions

I went back and read the looong thread at Snipers hide. Reading between the lines and hype, it seems the action is still going thru the process of refinement. When I inquired about my action delivery date in January, Ted told me they were held up because of "revision B" with no other info provided. I see threads about Bordens being in stock at several locations and they are renowned by members, here. I think I'll squash my rebel tendencies and listen to the herd. I have never read a post about a bad Borden.

Don't forget the money you can save by purchasing a Pacific Tool & Gauge action on their site... They make other well known actions we use daily so these should be great as well, just like a Stiller Tac 30...

Good move. :)

Mauser rifles with controlled round feed (CRF) can be modified to feed a cartridge from the top.
I was under the impression the mausingfield had been modified in this way, I could be wrong!
If this really interests you check out their website.

My opinion is it is way overpriced, your opinion may differ.

I second the gent who recommended Stiller TAC 30. Ask who so many custom actions are Rem 700 clones? Why does Uncle Sugar use Rem 700's or their clones? Stiller's customer service is the best I've ever seen, and most customer service in this game is pretty good. Ask for Russ.

While I am aware of these actions, I don't have a lot of familiarity with them, so this is just speculation.

However, some CRF actions won't allow you to just drop a round in and close the bolt; they will only feed from the action.

For somebody on the bench, or a prone match firing single rounds, or a hunter needing one more quick shot, they don't work as well as a push feed.

I never saw the reason for the big fanfare that the CRF actions receive.

They can feed upside down? Great. You really need that for deer hunting? Prairie dogs? Targets?

You can single feed the Mausingfield. Many of the PRS guys you will see run through a mag and just single drop a one round or two instead of swapping mags. If the extractor is tuned correctly it's no big deal to drip feed them and won't tear up brass. I have shot my buddies a bunch. I'm waiting on a long and short action lefty to get here.

ShotStrait22,
Where did you get a Ruger is a Mouser? I haven't been rushed by a Texas Jack Rabbit or deer yet. A good Remington type rifle would work great. If I went to Canada, Alaska, or Africa I do have several 40 and 45 cal CRF rifles. The reason is that I may be shaking like a dog $hitting peach seeds and would have to make several shots while I was stirring the air with my rifle. Why spend the money on a Mousingfield? They don't make a competitive accuracy rifle.

This is a CRF 416 Rigby on an old 1917 Enfield. We have some mean A$$ raccoons on our property.

Well, thanks alot. Just when I had convinced myself that laminates were pretty....you bring this to show and tell.

One more note and I'll leave it.
Surely none of you would admit to owning a rifle with that God Awful bolt knob on it. Never seen anything close to looking that nasty.

Referring to the Mausingfield ....yes the knob looks like it's designers inspiration came from a visit to an adult gift shop.

Looks like he was showing off for an engineering project by seeing how many parts of different actions could be combined in one and still kinda work.
What do you see in it that "kinda" works? I think it combines the best features of many actions while including many innovative features. Definitely an engineering project, but I think it's nice to see something other than a Remington clone. The only thing I don't like about is the look of the bolt knob, but that knob even has some thought put into it.

Replacable bolt head and firing mechanism are 2 that he coulda left simple. Savage nut and torroidal bolt lugs too. Its ok tho theres gotta be options in the market even tho i can get a defiance, stiller, atlas, pierce, or borden over $600 cheaper, in stock and theyre proven designs.
