Nude nut said:Hi guys,
I will end up with both 8twist and 7twist already had the 8 so thats whats going on first when the 7 comes I will get that chambered so my bases are covered.
The reamer has 100 freebore recomended by smith whats your opinions on freebore.
Cheers Trev.
JamesnTn, nice shooting. Are your mags standard length? I have a Rock River heavy barrel that is also an 8 twist that i want to play with at LR. I have 67 Sierra and Berger70 vld I am gonna start with. Hoping the Sierras shoot as good. I am less than 2 hours from the factory and can get blems much cheaper. There's nothing wrong with an 8 Twist. I shoot a JP 223 with an 18" barrel using the 80 grain sierras and I believe 23.0 grains of Varget. This rifle just hammers.
Here's a 5 shot group at 200 yards and at the time was only the 3rd five shot group from the rifle after the break in procedure.

I shot neck in neck with a custom rifle at 300 yards shooting tums with this rifle.
Here's the rifle.

Ron
Thanks Ron for the compliment. Yes the mags are standard length. I use the standard GI mags you can get from brownells for like 6-7 bucks. I just seat my bullet as long as I can and still function properly with the mags. The 77's from Sierra are designed specifically for magazine length AR's
Have you tried seating the bullet out to the lands? May not fit mag, but could use a follower and shoot single shot just for groups.
True. That is a good shooting rig.If you see the groups I've posted from my ARbi really don't think I can improve any better on it as it shoots now. I'm happy with the tune and being able to shoot tums at 300 yards and hit them shot after shot.
stinnett1981,
The rifle will be used as a single shot for fclass.
Cheers Trev
here is specs on my reamer from JGSboltman223,
Thanks you for your reply the smith has a 169 freebore reamer aswelll may have another chat with him may get the 7twist done with the 169 and the 8 twist with the 100 freebore.
Can always extend freebore in the 8twist if need be but sounds like it be ok soon see after xmas is over with.
Cheers Trev
I prefer 69 grainers out to 750. My experience is you can get to the sweet spot without destroying cases.
I have heard this said by a few at my local club must be something in it.I prefer 69 grainers out to 750. My experience is you can get to the sweet spot without destroying cases.
