For what purpose would one use a profile post and how is it initiated?A profile post is not private and not the same as a private message. The old forum did not have this feature. If you want a private conversation, then start one ("Send PM").

+1Not really liking the new forum, I vote to go back to the old one . Why change is said to be good but seems to be alot more difficulty involved for everyone. ...even the mods.
I don't think they did enough homework on that one.

I'm on another forum ( http://www.eevblog.com/forum/index.php ) where they're using SMF V2 software with little or no problems.
Change is never liked but with further work and tweaks most will be happy in due course.
Do carry on.![]()
I keep getting "alerts" even after not checking any of the options to initiate alerts.
A lot of us ARE dumb--MYSELF INCLUDED. Don't do facebook--don't know how. dedogsActually, we did look very carefully at the SMF V2 upgrade option. that would have been a simpler migration to be sure. But basically it was a dead end. SMF is an open source thing supported by volunteers. There really is no professional-grade support at all. Also SMF is not really design from the ground up as a mobile application at all. Mobile features require "dumbing down" the software. We felt that this was not the direction we wanted to go.
AVATARs:
In the near future, we will allow registered, contributing users to upload an Avatar (personal photo) for their profile. Currently, while we work out bugs in the database, we have this feature disabled. Pushing out all those thousands of photos puts more strain on the server initially.
Yep, that's the page I was referring to where I did not check any boxes and hit "Save changes"......still get alerts. So many new bells and whistles to get used to, I just like to keep things simple. Thanks. You can turn alerts off. Click on your user name at the top right. On the light blue frame that appears, Select Personal Details. That opens a big page. On the left side, near the bottom, you will see "Alert preferences". With that you can Turn off all the common Alert triggers.
