I agree. Dowel pins are tight in the holes but drill rod will float.Use dowel pins not drill rod. Hardened and ground dowel pins from msc
Drill Rod will Float?
There isn't any Float w/ an .125" diameter pin, unless the trigger housing pin holes are AFU.
I wouldn't want my trigger to be able to move. I would think it would effect timing and be unsafe. MattIf your pin floats, it's easy to deform one end a bit with a cold chisel so that it fits tightly in the receiver hole. Failing that, a tiny dab of Loctite 290 on each pin end will lock them down but leave them easy to drive out. Once in the stock, a pin is not going anywhere, even if it floats.

.125" diameter trigger group pins are a slip fit in a Remington.
The pins are not a press fit.
There is a prick punch mark for each pin hole to retain the pins in the receiver, witnessed from the 5o'clock position of the receiver.
Dowel pins & drill rod is available in oversize & undersize diameters.
To be as smart as the equipment that you are working on,micing the diameter will eliminate any assumptions.
And...dowel pins come in even, over and under sizes
