40x 6x47 special by Mike Walker

At one point in the mid 70's Mike Walker built me a 40xbr in 6x47(222m) with a 20 inch bbl and the barrel epoxy bedded fully with the action free floated, he bought it to me at Fasset Pa for a match, sporter or lv class 10.5 " rifle. it has a Remington 20x experimental scope mounted on the action.

the action moved minutely if the trigger was not perfectly pulled to the rear 100%

needless to say as the action moved the scope moved and I had a nightmare getting use to the gun/trigger -- after the match I asked Mike to take it back, bed the action and free float the bbl in the normal 40x fashion. He did and the rifle shot in the .100's

foolishly a friend talked me out of it years later and I regret selling it to this day.

Wow! Closest I can come to BR items made by iconic legends is bullets by Myles Hollister, and a shootin' rest made by some old Texas geezer named Lambert.

I didn't know I was older than you. I'm only 72 yrs. old.

The ones in Precision Shooting are probably better than mine, but here goes.
First is my Mod 37 Rimfire rifle. Mike said they were lucky to be able to go to the manager's woodbox for their wood.

Now I need to find the other one. It is a Remington Mod.722 in 257 Roberts. It was his favorite deer rifle.

I have shot the rimfire, but not the 722. The rimfire is very accurate.

When we were deer hunting in Potter county with the Harts at their deer camp, he had the 257, a beauty.

I have a picture of opening day rack outside of the cabin with 9 8 point bucks hanging. 4 Harts, Mike, Homer Culver, White, and I were there.

I have a 40xbr 6X47 as described in very nice shape. It wears a 24x Leupold. I have not wrung it out. I just bought it because it was cool and came with dies and brass. Not saying that it belonged to Mike Walker, but I'm wondering what such a thing might be worth.

Wow, It's funny to see the South Creek sportsman's club in Fassett mentioned in a forum on the internet.. I grew up near there, was a member and shot Bench rest during the winter league.. GREAT bunch of guys, learned an awful lot shooting there. Set up next to Bill Gebhardt the owner of Bald eagle precision one day, Super super nice guy.

For several years I owned serial number 17 40X. It was roll marked 244 Remington, and had a factory 1:10" twist. At one time it had one of the Remington scopes on it. Dan Lilja beat me out of the scope, and a local guy offered me a stack of hundred dollar bills about a foot high for the rifle.

I still have my first year M37 and Lyman Targetspot it came with though.

I never made it into one of those rifles, but one of my favorite pieces of reloading equipment is a Culver powder measure that Homer built for me. Back in those days you gave Homer a Lyman 55 powder measure (the one I gave him was NIB) and some money (can't remember how much; not a lot) and you got the measure back with the micrometer measuring drum Homer designed and built installed and the original Lyman drum wrapped up in cellophane for storage. Does it count that Mike Walker told me I should definitely get the Culver conversion? :)
As I grew older I realized how privileged I was to have known Homer and been casually acquainted with Mike Walker.

I owned #0063 22 cal 40X for a weekend. Had a Unertle 15x Ultra on it. Got it for $975 with scope 10 years ago. Shot it against my $75 refurb 513T and there was not 900 dollars difference, that is for sure! Sent it on its way to a collector.

It was a beautiful rifle though

Here's my brush with greatness:
An older gentleman once offered me his 03 Springfield that he had rebarrelled, tuned and restocked by P.O. Ackley. He even had the hand-written receipt from Mr Ackley. When I say offered, I mean free. It was incredibly tempting but I just couldn't accept such a gift. Did get to take it to the range and put it on paper though. It was a gorgeous rifle.

Kylis dad
you shot in the hey days of south creek
Believe it or not the Sunday match are still going only new fact is it's changed to Saturdays.
Still a great bunch of guys there only a smaller group. I went there yesterday for the match.

I own Superior (of Dryden NY) rifles #7 and #5. Actions made by Ross Sherman. Both redone in 1980 by Fred Sinclair. He campaigned #5 as Old Yeller the 3rd, and Becky shot #7 as her HV. I have a letter from Fred to prove it. Both were 223 BF, but Fred opened #5 up to PPC. Its a switch barrel in 22 and 6 PPC now. #7 is a 6x50 RWS Mag.

Neither are leaving.

I have a friend that owns Buffalo Sporting in Buffalo Tx. that has a Shilen DGA actioned 6x47cased with dies and brass he would sell. It's set up for BR. It's a nice rifle.
