Favorite 6mm bullet for deer.

I have taken many deer with 6mm cartridges, mainly my 6mm Remington Ackley Improved.
All have been taken with 85 grain/100 gr Nosler partition bullet.
I have never lost a deer because of bullet performance and always shoot for the lung area right behind the shoulder. Range is normally in the 100 to 300 yards.
I am a "FIRM" believer in penetration "through and through" as it works for me always! However I don't get T&T as often as I like.

I would be interested in hearing what others have experienced with there 6mm bullets of choice.

I also prefer the lung shot with my 243's. I've used a variety of bullets, my favorite for deer being the Nosler 90 BT. The 85 Sierra BTHP works well for lung shot and is a good choice for an all around bullet, very accurate in my rifles. Another bullet that works well for me is the 100 grain Sierra Pro Hunter.

All my shots have been under 200 yards and I never lost a deer with the 243. The only deer I ever lost was with a 308, most likely due to a poor shot placement.

I've had good luck with a 95 Gr Ballistic Tip, but its out of a 243Win. With your round, I'd use exactly what you are using. There's nothing like confidence based on experience and it sounds like you've had good results. Sometimes they run no matter what you hit them with.

Nosler makes a 95 gr partition. I've used it in a 243.

As mentioned above, the Sierra 85 gr HPBT is an incredibly versatile bullet. Shoot them through the boiler room with it and they are going about 2' ... straight down.

Sometimes they run no matter what you hit them with.
+1
In my .243 I use 95 grain Nosler Partitions, rapid expansion and good weight retention. I have also used the Sierra 85 grain hollow point and they work well but from my experience nothing kills better then the partition. I would also like to try a Barnes TTSX bullet in my .243, anyone have experience with this bullet?

I've shot several with 100 gr. Nosler Partitions. Bullet weight from remnants I have removed have been remarkably even and consistent. Penetration has been good. I've noticed a number of poor reviews on this bullet in forum threads in the past. Maybe I'm just lucky?

My 2 top 6mm picks that have always worked flawlessly to 600 yards on antelope.
85g sierra GKHP & Noslers 95g hunting BT.
I run these in my 6x45, .243 & 6x6.8

80 grain Barnes TTSX bullets perform very well in my sons custom .243 deer rig. Accuracy, speed, expansion and killing power all in one bullet. Second choice would be the Sierra 85 grainer as mentioned..

Stacy, with all those exclamation marks you seem to be upset or disturbed with me or my question!
Do you have a problem with people who hunt?

Hi 40x guy, I was hoping someone would talk about the Barnes bullets. I tried some years ago but couldn’t get very good accuracy from them. Have they straightened out that problem?
How is the accuracy with your son's rifle. What kind of groups does he get at 2 and 300 yards?
I have always thought the Barnes bullets showed great penetration possibilities. Do you get complete penetration on lung shot deer every time ?

I have been using the 95gr Nosler Partition for over 30 years in a 243, I have never had to shoot twice or spend time looking for a kill as those that didn't drop in their tracks only took a few steps. That bullet has taken everything from Yote's and Mule Deer to huge Hogs and a Elk for me with no issue.

Here's my family favorites

95g nosler partition-43.0g of H4350-win primer

100g Hornady BTSP-42.3g of H4350, win primer

I can not stress enough how great the 95g partition performs. For some reason, the 95g is more accurate than the 100g partitions in the many 243's and 6 Rem's that I have had.

The 95 partitions weren't perfect when I was shooting them out of a .240 Weatherby. The front of that bullet can be violent. It definitely killed well but but if you hit a shoulder, you might find a piece of jacket in a steak. I don't remember ever recovering a base.
