Who Makes the Strongest Single Stage Press?

Here's another. The prices in this thread keep rising the longer it continues. ;) [br]

If not inclined toward foreign products, Dave Corbin's CSP-2 Mega-Mite will probably take anything you can imagine.

Matt, the answer lies in the definitions of the terms. They do not mean what you may think that they do. Since the materials are not being permanently deformed or broken, their ultimate strengths are not the issue. It is a common mistake. A thing can be stiffer, but take less force to be broken, but if we never apply enough force to break it, that difference does not matter. Look up Youngs Modulus and I think that you will see what I am referring to.

Thank you Boyd, Elastic Limit is what the majority of us need when talking "Strength." I don't think we care at which point it breaks, but bends without returning to original. Also thank you for pointing out the need to look at cross sections as well because most of these presses have large or larger C or O frames, but the actuating handle press is usually the weaker point.

You're 100% on about the A-4 ! I own 4 of them and no there not for sale. Wish RCBS, would have keep making them.

Turban CNC Heavy Präzipress.

They will export it if you send them a mail and ask, and so would mr Turban himself if you made contact.
Reason for not exporting to the US in general is your import/export policies, when it comes to gun parts etc.
But a reloading press has no import restrictions.

It's completely CNC machined from quality billet steel(minus F . Misumi bushings) mine weighs around 36 pounds.
The centering accuracy guarantee of 1/100 mm( 0.00039370in) for the whole stroke length is true.

The press stroke is smooth as a ball bearing while solid as a bank vault.
A solid an accurate stop, no cam over, no backlash wobble or anything, like most other presses i've tried.
Certainly a joy to use.

The handle is solid steel and 1' in diameter so good luck with breaking it, the picture is not correct as it is not colored.
The thinnest linkages is over a cm thick, except from the plastic primer bottle i do not see how one could break anything on it.

The fit and finish of the whole product is really top notch, the primer system works excellent.
The 1 1/4-12 and 7/8-14 reduction bushings are incredibly well made.
And it has enough leverage to press anything you want to.

Takes any standard shellholder, or extended ones if desired.

My co-ax went up for sale as soon as i got it,as it certainly does not make more concentric ammo, i tested with it before it went up for sale of course.

You will need some metric hex keys for mounting though, mounts with 3x M12 bolts, nicely recessed into the mount.
Currently working with Dan to get a custom Ultramount press riser made for it.

Comes complete with mounting bolts, the needed keys for the thread adapters and to loosen the shellholder part and primer bottle fixture.

I've owned/used a lot of single stage presses, and certainly this is the best one on the market, makes my old rock chucker seem like a toy.
It comes at a hefty price though.

No love for the rock crusher?

CH4D started a remake of originals several years back.
I read where they are no longer making them, but still have in stock.

I seriously doubt you would break one of them without help.

Received my Rock Chucker parts from RCBS about an hour ago. Everything's put back together. Boy those guys and gals at RCBS are great! :)

+1 on that....if there is a company with better customer service I have not run across it yet. Let us know how the new parts hold up!

Re Strongest Single Stage Press?

I have 3 arbor presses. If the plan is to stick a case in the die I would put my money on the arbor press, if the short handles fails, use a cheater. I appreciate a strong press, I can not say I have seen presses fail, I can say I have found reloaders with bad habits, methods and techniques fail.

Then there is that other part about flex, stretch deviation. Who measures? My strongest reloading presses are Herters. I have measured stretch, flex and deviation on RCBS A2 and Ammo master presses, .014", that means nothing to a bench rester but to me the .014" separation of the die from the shell holder means .014" of the length of the case from the shoulder to the head of the case did not get stuffed into the die when the ram was raised. I know the standard answer, the standard answer is screw the die down into the press an additional fraction of a turn or in complete turns, problem, the reloader had already screwed the die down into the press an additional 2 turns after contact.

Meaning? The die was screwed in an additional .143" after contact. I suggested using a better lube and cleaning method or start hitting the press with a big hammer, the hammer method is used by those that fit parts with interference fits. they can see the press is at its limit, they use the hammer for shock effect.

Not a single stage but none stronger -- No. 444 H Press

I just bought the accumaxx press and this thing is a beast! Everything on it is super beefy, can't see how it could break. It lets me load with my 7/8" dies and I can quickly change to my 50cal dies. Makes full length sizing the 50bmg a breeze.
Looks beauty too!

For the money LEE makes a heavy duty cast iron press for the 50BMG. I use mine for swaging 40-65, 45-70, & 45-90 brass to make the primer hole in the base uniform. Make sure your bench is very sturdy!

You are asking who makes the strongest stiffest press. From your initial post you said the handle broke not the press itself. I have a 1 YO RCBS Rockchucker Supreme Single Stage Press. The handle is .560” in diameter, ~13” long and a thread length of .812”. How do you bend a handle that’s .560” in diameter? It’s a solid rod not a tube. I have never bent a car lug nut wrench standing on it. Surprised it broke where the threads enter the toggle? If you need excessive force it may indicate poor lubrication. Most of the die lubes sold for reloading are not adequate for severe forming. Try a 10-30W motor oil. It has a much thicker film strength than reloading die lubes. Let me know if 10W-30 makes sizing easier. I found a huge difference in the force needed to force a K&M neck turner expander mandrel into a case with resizing lube and 10W-30 motor oil.
