Nightforce discontinued the 42x- 44
What’s a good non March scope ~42x crosshairs with dot?
I think they just stopped production, not quit making them. Not a huge demand for them..... jim
I have the [recently] discontinued 36X version of the IOR-Valdada BR scope below. They increased the mag a bit in the updated version and enlarged the objective from 42 to 45 mm, so it may be a little bit brighter than my 36X. The glass [Schott] in the 36X is the best I have ever looked through, that includes the NF NXS, BR, and Competition scopes I currently own.
eurooptics.com still has some of the 42x scopes with the ctr-3 (crosshair only).
Dont laugh. Sightron's fixed power s3 scope with ED glass is fantastic. And holds poi. @ridgeway has one now too. 20 ounces iirc and nice very nice scope. I love mine.
Also paid well under 1k for it. Nice clicks. Fine adjust parallax. Just an all around nice fixed power scope.
The NF 42x isn’t on their website which is why I thought they were discontinued.
The Valdada is worth considering, thanks.
I did find some NF 42x with the crosshairs no dot. I like a dot.
yeeup.. i would buy another when i am ready for it..
you can buy the 42 from europtics and have nf change the crosshair to a dot, and still be way under the original prices if the 42x.
way under? I think Nightforce charges $400 for a reticle change. Haven’t verified that. And will they still do it for a discontinued scope?
the scope was around 1850/1900
change is 350
1100 plus 350 is 1450....which IS WAY under 1850/1900
maybe you should call and ask them before challenging someone's post.
I wasn't challenging you sir... I was asking. As far as the cost... I read on these forums $400 for the swap. Maybe they meant $400 after shipping and insurance to them. That should be factored in. I also thought these scopes ran closer to $1700 before they were discontinued.
I will find out monday if they'll even do it... since its disconintued. I'm in the position where I might get one of these with a FCH but would really prefer a dot.
I'm with you. I own the FCH. It's very nice, but now that I've shot a good bit with scopes with a dot, I really prefer them for score and group shooting. I find target acquisition to be faster with a dot. I'll say this though. The price on those FCH scopes right now make them very appealing. When I bought mine I paid $1400 and felt it was a good deal at the time because most places were getting about $1650.
I just bought a Sightron 45x with a dot reticle. I have high hopes for this one, but won't know until I know.
I have had NightForce scopes, March scopes and now Kahles scopes. Of the 3, I like the Kahles the best. As far as optics go, the March and Kahles are on an even keel. But there are some "bells and whistles" on the Kahles that I believe make it superior to the March. However, BOTH the March and Kahles are preferable to the NightForce.
The Sightron fixed 45x is a no brainer. Just as bright as the 42x and it's cheaper. Holding POA is more valuable than anything else IMO.
I didnt have the same experience with my Sightron 45x. I felt it was on par with my Leupold 40x... but probably better than my Leupold 45x. I liked the crosshair. It was a very nice scope. Never mounted it on anything or tested it for POA shift. I dont see many guys using them at matches yet. Next time I run into someone using one I will ask to take a look again.
The Sightron I had did not compare to the NF 42x I've looked through, or my Valdada 36x. Both seemed like a step up in glass quality.
What happened to the prices on these scopes!?! When the Sightron first came out I remember distributors selling them for about $800 on here. I paid $725 and sold for the same price... as new. At the time, Leupolds were about $1000 new and sold for about $750-800 used. Now I see they retail for $1400. I cant imagine they're selling many at that price. And I see the Sightron retails for $1k. Its only been maybe a year and a half.
Sure makes the NF 42x and Valdada 36x feel like a better deal.
I had a NF 42x...I didn't have it long, lol. I use the Sightron on my 1K LG in matches. It's not coming off. My NF comp is collecting dust...
I've long sold both my comps since the ED 45x came out
I'd rather guys not use it... Keep using the comps, lol
Lol I agree.
Also Sightron will fix them if needed, not tell you there is nothing wrong with the scope it is your rings or your base isn't bedded or they can't find anything wrong in the the 2 hours it was there....... jim
