I live on the property I bought when I was 19, built my house at 26. I am now 48, tired of the deadbeat neighbors, corrupt law enforcement, and liberal Colorado.
I have been dreaming of Idaho or Montana or Wyoming for quite some time. Wyoming has the most favorable income tax, not sure how the totals stack up for the 3 states. Property taxes? Sales taxes? etc...?
I desperately want a property that I can build an airstrip and hangar, or one that accesses an airstrip. I prefer mountains nearby and trees on the property. Remote and off grid is a big plus, no neighbors for miles would be just fine.
Anything from the minimum to put in a 1000' strip to a several hundred acres is in my range.

Anyone have know of a property or area that I should look at?

Sad to hear your situation, and that you are leaving a state I thought I'd love to live in. I'm in much the same situation here in NewYork, the state that only cares about one city. I grew up here, suffered through the economic dark days, and bought property where I thought I'd retire. Then the ahole governor decided he was going to make NY "his" state and unleashed his demented gun laws and a host of endless BS legislation. Between the nanny laws, taxes, and blatant government corruption I've decided we need to go soon. Chased out of my home by a demonic, psychotic, twisted Democrat. Ain't life grand?

I've been selling off just about everything I don't NEED. I figure when I find the right place, I want to be able to get on it quick.

    Carlos;
You either have a most fortunate name or you have a lot of guts to use that as your screen name.

With all its problems and ills I still love living in New York City, crawling home for any of the 6 restaurants on my tree lined block for 1840s Brown Stones. 30 movie theaters within a short walk and all the other local features. PA is only 90 miles away and that is where my next Primary Residence (at least for legal purposes will be). Then pretty much the best of both worlds.

    Dale,

Actually you would be surprised as to how many gun owners there are on my block in Manhattan. There is an indoor range on 20th Street, just 8 blocks away and it is busy all the time. There is a Trap Club on Staten Island and many of those members are also members at the club I belong to in East Hampton. There are Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun ranges all over Long Island many visited by the New York City gun owners that keep guns in the city but shot them outside the city and if you go upstate there are probably percentage wise as many gun owners as in other gun friendly states.

I have had concealed carry permits in New York since 1971. The other day I walked into the local sheriffs office in the county I have my primary residence in, slapped down $40.00 and walked out with 8 pistol purchase documents. No one batted an eye. A few hours later I showed up with 8 new pistols that within 20 minutes were all listed on my new reprinted permits. Yes, New York's Safe act has many issues, but other states are close by even for those that work in New York.

BTW, When are we meeting up at Williamsport to kill some Clay Birds at 1,000 yards?

I think a helopad mite be better in the mountains than an airstrip? Easy to conceal, over an airstrip?

The Californians are invading so many states out west, be careful, I live in Az and we need a wall between cali and az. Spend summers in Wyoming and the Californians are swarming there, Idaho and Montana the same.

I don't blame you, Spencerhenry, with our newly elected super-liberal, gay governor, Colorado will be going the way of California. It's been a slow, incremental shift to the left, but it'll surely pick up speed now.

Best of luck finding America again.

Honestly, with everyone group of good folks that leave a state, the bad come with them. I was in Savannah back August visiting a friend, and the amount of NY plates I saw was ridiculous. The traffic patterns and amount of honking and cursing reminded me so much of NYC. I lived in NY for 4 years for college. Spent plenty of time in PA, Maryland, Delaware...No thanks. I will never live north of Virginia, ever.

If you move to a state to get away from your state, leave your states politics and identity behind. Adopt the state you’re going to. People wonder why Colorado is starting to suck? Because people escaped and brought their same identities, politics, and management ideas with them. They just turn their new home into what they were trying to escape.

Case in point, my in laws are from Miami. They moved to the middle of “bum f**k” Georgia (my hometown), and then question me about why I like to hunt or why I like guns so much. Could you imagine if I moved to Miami and started questioning everyone saying they were ignorant for not exercising their 2A beliefs? I’m only 30, I sound like I’m 75, but seriously people really piss me off. :D

Sorry OP, I feel your pain. Good luck on your search. You’ll find something.
