No but I have a group with over 20 rounds through it with 2 different shooters. Probably should mention that this group was shot with a handgun at 100yds.

That is the way I "proof" what may be a good shooting rifle and load - if it does five 5 shot groups that are all good then it is a good combo. It also puts a lot of pressure on the shooter to perform well.

I agree and then they have to shoot well at distance also.

During load development with my Savage FTR in 223, I found several combinations that shot around 1/4 MOA with Berger bullets. Haven't quite been able to replicate it with Nosler, Sierra, or Hornady yet but some were pretty close.

I know I'm grouchy sometimes about groups, but posting single groups doesn't tell a lot. Now don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that your posted groups aren't good, but a more true picture of your rifle and ability is 5-5 shot groups on one piece of paper.

I have 2 Rock Rivers I can hold under 1/2 minute constantly at 200 yds. I shoot a FTR with 90gr Berger’s at 600 and it will do its part. I make a bad wind call to drop a point before my load will slip one out. I choose to shoot a 223 Mid Range for few reasons. I like a challenge and I learn a lot about making right wind calls with that rifle which helps me when I pick up my 6 or 7 for F Open. Everyone has a system and comfort zone that shoots competitively and if it works for you stick with it. Keep open mind on new things to try to achieve your goals what ever they may be. You never stop learning.

The difference between the 223 and the 6mm class cartridge is bullet weight and fps. At 200-300 yards you're shooting a 53 grain vmax in your 223 at approximately 3,200 fps. I shoot a 6mmAI. I can start with the 75gr Hornady V-Max, seated pretty far into the lands, pushed by 51 grains of Vihtavuori N160, working up to about 52 grains. N160 seems to be perfect for the case, yielding great velocity (about 3760 fps) and excellent accuracy. I shoot a 12-twist and you can realize 3,700 fps and you get a better BC. When you get out to 300 yards there's simply no comparison between a 223 and a 6mm. THere's no comparison when it comes to bucking the wind, the speed and weight difference puts the 75grn v-max in a different class.

Yes, a hot rod 6mm is a force to be reckoned with. A 204 can put down a hurting as well.

That's not what this thread is about. I love my .223's.

Focusing just on the 223, using a 53 grain vmax and RL17 powder I can obtain velocities close to 3,200 and groups of .3-.4. That's on a calm day when you're not fighting the wind. I've got a CZ that I really can't complain about.

Have only been shooting the .223 for about 18mths but absolutely love it.
The best I have managed was .28MoA @300meters. This was a verified by one of the ROs for Bat shoot I was involved in when I shot it.

Attached is recent 60.7 I shot at 300M in very good conditions. 70gn Berger VLD in top of 23.6gn of Varget.

Mine is shooting very well right now. 90g VLDs and Varget. Brass life sucks though, get three firings before primer pockets loosen up too much. I shot my first clean with it at 600yds 200-13x.

How hard are you pushing them? I’m on my 5th reloads of Lapua brass and pockets are still tight (24.2g Varget, 2,725 fps)

24.7g Varget, any more and I get ejector marks on the brass. They are running 2830fps in a 28" barrel.

Achieved my personal goal this year. FTR Mid Range High Master with a .223 and 90VLD’s.
Yes it is a challenge but it can be achieved.

I also made HM with mine. 24.5 gr Varget with the 90’s. Although I’ve shot a clean I also did a 199-19X with it. The 308 guys hate for me to show up, LOL! Great round, lotsa fun!
