Finished my reloading desk

Damn you’re smart! Found the “big issue” I’m struggling with.o_O I planned from the beginning to just drill it. It is MY desk and I can do what I want. Now, I just can’t bring myself to do it. The powder measure means 4 holes!
I have a thought about trying to avoid it. I have a 2” overhang on the side and 1” on the front. I think I can put another board on top of the right end that’s drilled. Then bring some pieces down the side and front to wrap around the overhang and put some screws in from underneath that won’t show. ??? Any ideas on your end???;)
When i was working on the road i used to carry a 2x6 around with me, drilled to mount my press on and clamp it to the table where i was staying. it had a strap for my powder measure to. i had it hanging off the table a little and i could put a 2x4 between it and floor for extra support. Doesnt work for very heavy sizing though. I like to have thicker than 3/4" of wood to drill and mount a press on. Also i know you dont want to block the drawers with your press so that doesnt leave alot of room for you and the press in the middle cutout. Mabie you are gonna use one of those inline mounts and mount press at end? I would make a side table for mounting stuff to. put it in the corner and have this bench going the other way so you have an L bench. You will sure put the space on this desk to use. No sense covering this nice desktop up with other wood. You made it now its time to enjoy it. if you really do bolt/ screw something to this desktop, put a Backer under there.

PS if you make an L bench u can put a lazy susan in the corner

Those older, generic duty oak desks are pretty well made. I have one or two in use but single drawer stack. Good n solid.

5 months ago, I went to a resale shop and found an old steel office desk with a beat up formica top. I paid $20 for it and brought it home! My wife took one circle around it and said “Oh hell no! Not in MY house” I put it in the shop and used it as my temporary reloading station. I looked around for a new desk. This one had to be nice enough to make it in the house. I couldn’t find one that had the right drawer configuration. Most were $2000 or more anyway so I decided to make my own.

I'm guessing you aren't coming home this year.
Hi Nick! I’m still in a holding pattern. Here in beautiful off the beaten path Kerrville, we’ve had 6 confirmed cases and 4 recovered. I’m watching the stats and talking with friends and it seems that Delaware and Pa. are still pretty hot with the virus. I’m not real motivated to spend five days on the road and land in the Zombie Zone!

Pre fabed metal screen doors. Pick em up at local building supply. All you'll need is a level and cordless screwdriver. That'll give ya plenty of time to get stock built!

Yeah, I wish. They’re all extra tall French doors. They don’t make them in these sizes. Besides, I still have a pile of oak and my wifey has high standards. I think I’ve spoiled her! Not much “off the shelf” stuff makes her happy.:(;)

Tell ya what! The next time your wife asks you to get her a beer, hand her a Pabst Blue Ribbon. Let me know the reaction you get!

Steel desk are the best. Durable, versatile.

View attachment 1180046 Room for dog. Heavy and stable enough to dispense powder and seat bullets at the same time without disturbing the Charge master.

That’s exactly like the one I bought for $20!!;)

I moved the desk into my new IN THE HOUSE reloading room, leveled it and bolted it together. The wifey had to get her 2 cents in: “Move it to the left! No! My left! Too far! Back some. OK! That’s good!” I kept it zipped!;)
Yesterday, I made a press support that fit on the end. Today, I went to the shop and looked at it. Screw it! I drilled the top.;)

Josh,
Damn, that is beautiful. Your work is outstanding. Are you going to mount your presses to the top of that work of art or have a separate press bench.
I still remember the pics of your reloading room in DE. Can't wait to see what you end up with in the great state of Texas.
I swear, if I co um old handle the heat I would be there in a minute. But not going to happen.

It’s called a wrench!o_O:D;)
It takes a minute to unbolt the press and store it in the bottom drawer on the right. The top drawer it blocks will be for extra bullets and such that I’ll access if needed before I set up. All the essentials will fit in the left hand drawers and the center drawer.:D The slides I used are full extension and can handle 150 pounds per drawer. The drawer bottoms are 3/4” ply and the drawer sides are 1” Oak. One of the thin drawers will hold 7 to 8 thousand bullets.;)
