Hornady A Tip Match, anyone?

Anybody excited about the new Hornady ATM? The BC's look appealing. Right now only 5 bullets available but I'm sure more to come.

Their asking price precludes excitement! Have never been a big Hornady user, now there is a better than even chance I never will be!! I just do not like to be gouged!!

I like the idea of an aluminum tipped bullet, and Hornady has a good track record with us of their bullets meeting their BC claims.

The price is dampening my enthusiasm considerably. Definitely too high to grab some and try in rifles of the appropriate calibers. But they'll receive careful consideration for each new project, and I'll be keeping my ear to the ground regarding results from folks who do try them.

I don't see them as being a big player in my F-Class shooting which is mostly 300-600 yards. But 1000 yard F-Class is already pretty pricey for me due to travel and lodging to ranges further away. The higher cost is a much smaller portion of our overall 1000 yard F-Class spending, so that makes it more palatable. We also simply don't shoot nearly as many bullets at 1000 yards as we do at 300-600.

I'll probably try the 30 cal. offerings on a limited basis. - IF they shoot well at long range then I may consider them. - I'd rather pay more for a good shooting bullet than spend money on ones that don't shoot so good.

Sure would be nice for someone with a bullet spinner to check them out!

I'm willing to bet they'll spin as true as most others do. - Uniform concentric jackets and on-the-money lead cores I believe are part of the solution to producing accurate bullets. - IF they have these 2 elements and the aluminum tips are uniform, with a barrel that "likes" them I'd say they may have potential.

All it will take is a few shooters too lay down a a record or near record and these bullets will fly off the shelves, the serious top shooters will have no problem with the price, and they will definitely give them a try, we will just have to wait and see.

I hope they tightened up their tolerances. Last "Match" bullets I bought from them were 6.5 mm, 140's.
Three different bearing surface lengths in each box. Weight varied by one full grain.

Haven't bought any since.
