Your thoughts about gun grease?

Has anyone tried the original STP? I have found a can.
Yes sir.
Been using it for years.
I filled a Visine eyedrop applicator back in the 80s when I was shooting short range BR.
I still have it.
It’s about half full now.
Always use it on my bench guns.

Sounds like it might be useable for the bolt carrier of a AK or SKS , but I've been lubing mine with a mixture of White Lithium and a few drops of Automatic Trans fluid , mixed , for fifty years , and they show no real appreciable wear in all that time . Clean-up is a simple "wipe-down" , and re-apply to moving areas .

When you order an action from BAT they include a a small pack of TW 25 lube. You think they might know something?

TW25B @ Brownells.

At Amazon TW25B® synthetic grease significantly reduces friction and wear on all working parts, penetrating metal surfaces and leaving a semi-dry film coating for smooth functioning and extended life of metal parts
I got some TW 25 grease with a new Sig pistol I bought years ago then they switched to Lucas. I like the TW 25 for slide rails.

I tried the dark gray molybdenum disulfide CV joint grease on auto pistol slides in the 80s. It was messy as hell, 2nd only to Nev'r Seize. Good lube for sliding things, it still has uses on the lawnmower. Tried a number of automotive type lubes & settled pretty much on white lithium brake lube in the plastic tub for about $3.79 at the time. Never a problem until a few years ago when I dug a pistol out of the back of the drawer & could barely work the slide. It may have been back there untouched for 20+ years. Still unsure what lube was used, but it looked a lot like the lithium turned more yellow & caked. Still using it some but got a tube of TW25 a few months back & have been trying it on the Buckmark & 1911s. No complaint so far.

BreakFree & G96 CLPs kept a Winchester 77 shooting for decades until it got sold & is still useful for some pistol applications. Also for very light coating on bolt gun firing pin assys.

Bolt gun locking lugs have been getting Shooter's Choice, the red stuff in the syringe, since the 90s. Never a galled lug, & there are still a few new packages downstairs, so no reason to change. A light film of their FP-10 on bolt bodies eases manipulation a bit.

There was some "miracle" Teflon stuff around for a short time years ago in liquid & grease forms. Friction Block? Mixed feelings about it. There is still some of that stuff in a box somewhere too. In fact, the grease may be what was on the stuck pistol slide.

Rem-Oil w/Teflon works really well on loading press rams & links, is excellent on squeaky hinges around the house, & car doors too. Cleans, penetrates, then dries so doesn't hold dust. Might also be good for firing pin assys.

That stuff is nasty, it is great in a sealed CV joint but NOT on something that makes contact with my skin.

Why would you need a grease that melts at 750 for a hand held firearm.
Maybe if you are the kind of guy that goes to the range thinking that the only use there is for a firearm is to use it as a bullet hose???

My hands are not that sensitive. It only takes a little dot of grease on each lug. And I have no idea how hot it gets that close to the lugs but the thrust load is very high.
It's not about chemical sensitivity, it's that once you use some moly grease, everything turns black. Even your wife will probably get stained black from the inside out.

What for? SS slides on pistols, threads of a barrel, or triggers?

Toyota used to use Kyrotex grease from Dupont for decades on CV shafts but it became too expensive.

I use a lot of Redline CV2 grease and Mobil-1 synthetic grease for a lo tof things.

Moly Grease was my go too for decades starting in the 1980's when the US Army started using it on Bradley Fighting Vechiles and a lot of other systems. Break-Free CLP was also a thing back then.

I think people over think a lot of things. Where I want something like NLGI 00 Fluid Grease I take Mobil-1 0W40 motor oil and Mobil-1 synstheic grease and mix to get that viscosity and then put in a squeeze bottle. Around 1998 i was using 5W30 and 15W50 mixed with grease to get what I wanted but now 0W40 all the way.

I use M1 0W40 straight for lubrication where an oil is needed.

When I want a straight grease I use either Redline CV2 or Mobil-1 synthetic which ever I think is best for the application as I tend to have both on hand.

I happen to have some some Sunoco Moly EP Grease on hand and often have other's from Schaeffers, Shell, Valvoline, and many other's on hand. I think it really is about making a smart informed choice not brand loylaty. Phillips Aeroshell can be good but not worth a premium.

Better to educate yourself and make well informed choice than to blindly follow something!

If I had to make one choice for a gun grease it would be Redline CV-2. I would use it any place a grease was called for.
