Your suggestion for the best electronic muff

1. Muff must not touch the stock while bench shooting
2. Must have the best sound suppression.
3. I'm hard of hearing, must have good voice amplification.

Whats your choice ??? LDS

Howard Leight....Shooters Electronic Earmuff ..........They are the only ones i have ever used. The price is good and they review just fine and don't touch the stock. Worth giving them a look for sure....;)

Don't know if they're the best, but my MSA Sordin gel cup's are low profile and very comfortable. Upper range of amplification is very good.

3M Peltor Tactical Pro Electronic Headset... NRR is 26db very good.

Some people do have issues with their size, I don't. They work well and battery life is good if you remember to turn them off.
I can also highly recommend the SoundGear Custom Fit hearing products by Starkey, they're really great, although a little pricey. I leave them in all day and turn them off when I'm shooting and use the Peltor electronic muff with the sound on.
I'm not sure if the db protection is much better when the sound is turned on while wearing the electronic muffs but if I turn both off the sound protection rating goes way up to two huh's and a what !

I also added the gel cups, made a big difference in comfort.

If you're looking for the best sound suppression, then go with Pro Ears Gold Series - The best! You will need to select the model with the sound suppression level you are seeking. Unfortunately, the higher the sound suppression, the larger the ear muff, which might be a problem and hit the stock. I use their largest, highest sound suppression model, and I'm able to find a position that works with my prone and benchrest shooting. These also come with independent dual circuit boards, which attack the sound at the fastest rate than other electronic muffs, and amplify the sound significantly (adjustable sound level on each ear). They're expensive, buy they're the best!

I believe the PRO Ear Gold has the fastest reaction time to shut down the sound. I know they have the best warranty that I have seen. They also have a trade in trade up warranty. Matt

Here is my .02 cents.....

1. When you find this jewel please let the rest of us know!!!!!!

2. Best compared to what exactly ???? I don't know of one that makes this claim and really is the best...if it was you wouldn't be asking, because you wouldn't have any trouble knowing which one it is...it's the one the rest of the world is already wearing!!!

3. I have the same problem and also suffer tinnitus. All of the ones I have tried were loud enough.

So...........my vote goes to the Peltor Tactical Sport. They cost more than most at about $120.00 plus or minus. I have tried many and this one works fantastic for me. Again, I don't know about "best" sound suppression, but I will say that your hearing will not get any worse if you wear these. Comfortable and plenty of volume. An added plus is that the battery lasts a very long time. I have had these over a year now and shoot a lot...never changed the battery yet, FWIW. I believe either Peltor or somebody makes a "gel" ring for extra comfort, but I haven't bought them yet.
You get stereo sound out of these and they come with a blaze orange safety cover for each ear that can be switched with the black ones {also included} for hunting. Again, I have pretty moderate hearing loss and I wear these when I am sitting in a tree stand. I found that most of the less costly electronic muffs sounded like someone was talking to you over a kids walkie talkie. Not these, they are crystal clear.
I seriously don't know about ones that wont hit your rifle....these do have a cut back section and the ear muff part is pretty thin, and then again maybe I suffer some affliction...but I have never seen external hearing protection that I could not get to hit the stock. Best of luck finding what you need.

Whatever you choose, look at the NRR. Many of the high dollar units have a poor NRR. You are paying for electronics, not hearing protection. If you have a hearing disability, you should consider a professional evaluation and hearing aids.

This is absolutely true...and you could also be paying for things like wifi and wireless comm ability....as if you really need to talk to someone on your cell phone thru these while at the range!!!

When I was researching which ear muffs to buy, I ended up going with the Pro Ears Pro Mag Gold Series - They have an NRR 30 rating. The noise reduction is high. The volume control on each ear is fantastic, and can be very clear when speaking with folks at the range. The fast attack time of 1.5 milliseconds intercepts the bad sound before it makes it to your ears, and doesn't interfere with the sounds you want to hear. I chose those because they have the highest NRR rating, but they are large. The large size can hit the stock when rifle shooting, and can get a bit hot (sweaty) under the leather muff. They're also pricey - I believe I paid somewhere in the $250 range. But I did want something that would seriously protect my already damaged hearing, in hopes of not contributing to it's further deterioration. They have smaller models with similar technology, but the smaller the ear muff, the lower the NRR.

I made the command decision, and purchased the PRO EARS GOLD predators w/a NRR of 26. I can see where the weak point of this muff is the frame work, its all some type of synthetic material. Age and rough handling could lead to failure.
Muffs have to be made where one size fits all. There is no doubt about a good ear seal w/my fat 75/8 head. These fit muuuuch tighter than my old Peltor shotgunners muff. Constant wear w/this tight fit may be an issue, or something hopefully I get use to.
Now for the confusing story of the purchase: $214.55 from Gizmos for Life, located in Indiana. The shipping was free, the tracking is FedX.
In actuality the product came from WalMart in MO. and delivered by mail. When I cked back on the site the price had increased $2.00. One never knows or sure about anything. LDS

You will like them. You can really hear things but the loud noises shut down. Very fast cycle time. In 8 years of hard use throwing them in the car. I broke one side of the holder. I called or emailed them and they sent a new complete headband. Matt

Who sell gel cups ,could use on my pro ear gold, good out doots but too little reduction for indoors if the big bores come out.
