Your suggestion for the best electronic muff

Haven't looked recently but when I bought mine some years ago, the best NRR I could get was the Peltor Pro Tac II. The sport tac ones for shotguns didn't have a high enough NRR for rifles

I occasionally wear bifocals with plastic arms/temples under my MSA gel cups. They eventually get uncomfortable enough to be a distraction. I suppose a thin wire temple would be different.

I'm looking for a better means of hearing protection. The Howard leight muffs I have work well enough most times and I can insert soft plugs under without issue.
My problem is 1 the discomfort of heat in the summer and B (ha ha) the bulk I don't care for.
I'd like an inner ear device that won't cost me the price of a custom br gun or more. If I can find something that does what my muffs do but inner ear, I'd be happy.

What you are dealing w/here, according to an audiologist,
is only partial protection w/an inner ear device.
He says unless you cover the whole ear, sound is transmitted
through the bones of the exposed part of the ear, plus if you shoot w/your mouth partially opened sound travels in that way.
I use molded plugs and muffs together. LDS

Makes sense.
I have damaged hearing and permanent tinnitus from chemo and radiation. My deduction requirements won't be as stringent as most. I checked out some active and passive devices. Not settled on either yet. But I would love to have something that amplifies when not restricting.

Howard Leight....Shooters Electronic Earmuff ..........They are the only ones i have ever used. The price is good and they review just fine and don't touch the stock. Worth giving them a look for sure....;)
I bought a set of these and the first shot today outdoors told me that something was not right. In no time I was flinching and my ears hurt. They do not cancel out/block loud gunfire. The electronics work well for listening, seem to be well made but are not for shooters IMO. Had to put on my old red set of Peltor muffs. Ears still hurt 3 hours later. Very disappointed !

I have been using them for quite a while with zero issues. I would return them if i were you.....I use them with everything from heavily braked magnums to my 6ppc......Sorry to hear about your day.

I just tried a pair of MSA Sordin Extreme's with gel cups. MUCH better than the Leight Impacts with standard cups for comfort...albeit a little heavier. Sound attenuation seemed about the same but the amplified sound quality was a little better. I did like the leather headband. I did find that the bottom of the muff did not contact my cheek piece like the Impacts did. All in all, if the Leight's had the leather headband and I could have found gel cups that fit I could have saved much dough. I think if H. Leight would offer gel cups it would be a hit.
